Well I got up this morning with the news that the Ford Territory won Wheels car of the year, I made a bet to my work colleagues that if it did not win this year I would run around the block with only my boxer shorts on, and in this weather I am so very glad that it pulled it off. What a great vehicle, :yummy:

I was watching an interview this morning prior to the announcement on Ch9 with a wheels staff member and it was obvious it had won the award. Looks like the VW Golf was the closest competitor. Is the magazine out soon?

well done Ford!

There's an article on Carpoint this morning that says it beat the Golf and the Volvo S40/V50 twins for the award.

Congratulations to all at Ford that had a hand in the development of the car - the win is well deserved and a credit to your work.

Well done Ford on a project they have put a lot of time and effort and resources into. The end product shows just how well they have done it and the sales also point to that! I'm tipping Geoff Polites would be very proud of his pet project that started years ago

Well done Ford!

Well done to Ford to achieving this feat twice in the last 3 years. It just goes to show how good the Current Falcon/Territory/Fairlane package is. Good blend of refinement, luxury and technology.

Excellent result and very relevant to the average Aussie consumer.

I couldn't think of a more worthy winner!

This is g8 news for Ford and The Territory. Congratulations 2 everyone involved. My Question Though.....
How long is it going to take the marketing execs to pull their fingers out and start seriously premoting this COTY title??????? Hope it doesn't take as long as it did when ambrose won the v8's.....

Ford's best selling Territory SUV was today awarded Wheels Magazine Car Of The Year 2004, one of the most coveted motoring accolades in the country.

"It's truly an honour to accept this prestigious award on behalf of the 5000 Ford employees, our many supplier partners and our dealers," said Ford Australia President Tom Gorman.

"It's been fantastic to achieve record sales since last year's launch, but winning awards as coveted as Wheels Magazine Car Of The Year is truly the icing on the cake.

"I see it as a just reward for the truly outstanding efforts of everybody at Ford Australia who took on the monumental task of creating an all-new vehicle designed for Australians, engineered by Australians and built here by Australians," Gorman said.

It marks the second win of the prestigious Wheels Magazine Car Of The Year award in three years by Ford Australia, with the BA Falcon taking out the 2002 title.

The mix of car-like handling and traditional 4WD packaging has seen Ford Territory dominate the SUV sales charts since its launch last June.

Territory has been the best selling SUV in Australia since July 2004, achieving sales of more than 15,000 vehicles in its first nine months.

Stay tuned to your televisions tonight for advertisements.

Wouldn't hurt to buy copies of the national dailies this Sunday either.

Given that the marketing guys - and for that matter no-one here - knew we had won the award until today, I hope you'll appreciate the effort that's gone on behind the scenes.

Cheers, and believe me even a 4-hour drive through flooded rains today can't wipe the smile off my face, or anyone else here at Ford today!

there is no doubt this car would have to win something, with falcon refinement, falcon comfort and seating but the practical enhancement that all 4x4 owners love to have. It was a sure winner right from day one.

Stand up Ford Australia - you deserve this achievement.

Fantastic car, fantastic achievement. Congrats to all at Ford. 2 awards in 3 years means, despite the knockers, theres a helluva lot of things being done right at Broadmeadows.

Hey RATT, What does a COTY do for resale?

Don't know but it wouldn't be a huge impact. In the short term it will help.

Once again well done to all involved.

An awesome result and very well deserved! Looking at it's competition, it had the title in the bag, but that certainly doesn't detract from what a fine vehicle it is.

BTW Welcome to the forums Andrew, looking forward to your involvement! If ever you need input (or opinions!) from any of us, don't hesitate to ask.

Top result for a top vehicle. Well done to all involved in it's conception, development & realisation.
I honestly think that give it 5-6 years, Territory will be neck & neck with Falcon sales. The only thing that'll save Falcon is the fleet market...

well done Ford. Wheels car of the year - again. This is becoming a habit. I have to admit, as much as i hate 4wds on the roads, i like the Terrotory. A lot.

I often see a black one with colour coded bumpers and chrome wheels and nudge bar and it looks sensational.

Now, if only we could see a turbo or V8 model.... :1syellow1

Specifically set my alarm to see the announcement on the TV.

Great stuff Ford! Truly a deserving winner of the award, and it was great to see so many Ford/Ford subsidiaries in the final cut too, but even better to see a local take out the award again.

3 cheers for Ford.

Anyone seen the ads yet?

Donut King
04-02-05, 12:57 PM
I saw one ad that was continuing on with the cricket themed ads, showed a bunch of clips, catch of the year, shot of the year, ball of the year, then cuts to a shot of the territory and says car of the year...
I guess its not bad for the short notice they had

Just got the Ford Oz email.

Good stuff. then again, if it didn't win I'd honestly say the prize is warped. It is a great product, but would be fantastic with a Boss 260 under the hood. TQE fart mobile, but well deserving of the prize.

Can't wait for that cricket ad, great idea methinks. I haven't seen any other ads yet though....but they will come I'm sure.

There have been a few ads with it in ... if anyone noticed the KFC ad about going to the ashes ... they were driving a Territory through the drive-thru and trowing the bottle caps in the back seat ... then there is a dune commercial with the Wheels COTY add ... and then there's the other cricket ad about fielding positions and fitting the team in the car (well most of it).
