View Full Version : What's everyone's primary use for their Territory

OK ... just wondering what everyone uses their Territory for.
I myself mainly use it for towing and family purposes.
My Fiancee competes in Dressage/Hacking/Halter classes with horses (pure bred and Anglo Arabians.) So mine gets used for horse floating purposes mainly.
Then the odd family outing here and there ... also I have used all 7 seats occasionally with mates in the car ... and going to and from horse shows with people we know.
I haven't really taken it off-road yet ... and don't really want to with it being this new still.
Also my fiancee uses it to commute a short distance to and from work (I use her Mirage for commuting purposes (as I do a round trip of approx 100km per day) because it is cheaper on petrol and much easier to negotiate heavy traffic in.
It's my daily commuter to-and-from work. (~60kms all up)
It's the family (2 adults, 1 10y/o + 1 7y/o) car for weekends and holidays.
(Mrs Raptor has a Mazda Astina for her daily run about)
It 7-seats are great if the kids want to bring friends along or to pick up the in-laws for an outing.
It sometimes gets loaded up with camping gear for a weekend in the outdoors.
It occasionally hauls a trailer of green waste etc to the tip (sorry recycle centre).
I sometimes go for a drive just to enjoy it :)

Same here ... it's a nice open road ... and also twisty road vehicle.
It's enjoyable taking it through Mountain passes rapidly :eclipsee_
Very similar usage as Raptor - I do quite a few trips between Hobart and Launceston and it cruises beautifully on the highway. Have had it off road a few times and while the noises from the AWD system are a bit disconcerting at first it performed OK. It seems to have quite good off road credentials apart from the ground clearance and lack of low range for the really tough stuff. In my Qld days of years gone by I spent a lot of time at Double Island and Fraser and I reckon the Terri would perform well in those conditions. Would be interested in hearing from anyone who has tried it out in those areas.

I was thinking it would be good on Sand ... especially with the already wide tyres on it ... drop the pressure down ... i think it would cruise nice over sand ... and being auto it would be fairly smooth.
But I am not trying it out yet ... but I'd like to take it along Stockton Beach just north of Newcastle.

I have similar uses. Work everyday, shopping, family, towing and holidaying with the camper trailer. Mostly dirt road driving to and from work.
I also train students at the local school for a 24 hour recumbent vehicle race (Pedal Prix) and it is used for a warning vehicle, carrying tired or injured bodies, the occasional broken down bike and storing drinkers and supplies that the kids have. I don't ride a bike with them, but get plenty of exercise pressing that hazzard button and keeping an eye in the review mirrow for fast approaching threatening semi trailers.
We have a Camper Trailer Hire business, so it does a bit of towing - also when we go camping. Tow's the ski boat as well.

Mines a half work/half pleasure vehicle. Its nice to have the space in the back for all the heavy equipment. The turbo loves a full load and passengers to boot! Doesn't even bat an eyelid going up a steep hill packed to the hilt.
I'm looking forward to tweaking the engine in the future... im sure she's got more to give!

I used my old RWD for work, and going out to the family property... It was handy and i enjoyed being able to take it basically anywhere within reason but the XR6 ute also has benefits, plus its nearly half the price of another Territory...
Ill probably get another Territory late in 2010 once they get the upgraded I6 :)

Mine is the wife's runabout, and on the weekends it becomes my car.

My TTG started as a pretty awd going to car shows, but i got sick of that.
now it's the daily driver and tows my jet ski to the ramp in my spare time.
oh and still shocks the pants off unsuspecting commendore drivers :evil3: :naughty:
Our Territory replaced An EA Sedan and even though our kids have grown up and left home the wagon size is fantastic, the last time we had this much space was from 1985 to 89 with a 8 seat 1974 VW Kombi
And the the extra clearance of the Territory enables us to go on the tracks that pass as roads in our shire!
Wow, this threads back alive after 3 years & 10 months.
Add that to my kids ages but otherwise what I said above is still more or less correct ;)
Though these days the trailer is more often full of dirt bikes for the son & I

Hows does a nearly 4 yr old thread come back, lol?
I'm on my second T. First one was a RWD Ghia, current one is a AWD Ghia Turbo. Both cars were bought for work use (wine sales rep) but function fantastically as a family hack as well. Not to mention the great group of people i have met who also love a T (or 2).
To burn as much fossil fuel as possible. :) Just kidding.
You certainty don't buy one of these for the fuel economy.
Manly use it to drive to work and hopefully use the massive space in the back for my scuba diving equipment.

For the wife to lug the kids around in, and for me to have a play with now and then.
It still gives me a grin when I give it a little stick.
Used as my wife's run around with 3 teenagers, and I do get to drive it when we're towing the camper van. (Or she forgets to hide the keys and I borrow it for my run around)

I use mine mainly as my commute car but it doubles as the footy team/club car, family car, shopping cart, cruise car, going out in style car and camping base on a hunt. I've taken my rwd ghia more off road than most 4wds will every get, :nana:
Mine is for me to drive to and from work, and anywhere else I need/have to go, and best of all noone else gets in there much so its usually cleaninsh.
Also mine in used to transfer my money to many of our site sponsors to pay for bling and zing.

Commuting to work, weekend runabout, family holidays, and travelling to Kiama, Bowral or Katoomba for afternoon tea towards the end of the year when I need to reach 25,001 kilometres.

Mines the wifes daily ride but it also doubles as 'the best' tow vehicle I have ever had in nearly 30 years of towing ski boats around the country!

"Mum's Taxi", Delivery Van, People Mover, Touring Car, Tow Car, and everything else you can think of. On a scale of 1 to 10, our Territory is about an 11.5 on the useful scale.
Although the wife has just realised that my Ranger has free fuel (I pay!) so the Tezza has been sitting in the shed for the last week or so...

Mine is my work vehicle and week-end run-around. Currently I am averaging 6,000klm a month. Next week I will be heading south to Melbourne via Bright and then back to Brisbane in the early New Year.
Mum's taxi for the 4 littlies. Barely drive it anymore as i have a POS camry for a work car. Once kays are up on it i'll be pushing for something that I can actually use after work and on weekends, etc. Another T perhaps?

Only done about 650km sofar but......
it gets me to and from train station 3 days a week very nicely. My wife uses it as a runabout on her days of, which means I am forced to drive the sv6 to the trainstation. She prefers it over her commodore I think even though she won't admit to it (holden girl)
On weekends it is the main car and it will be used for holidays towing our boat along.
Family car. I ts better than a Falcon for comfort, ride height and it feels safer. Theres tons of room in the back for when the misses wants to buy some furniture from ikea! lol

Kids school taxi and general family vehicle, oh and being a company car I drive it to and from work too .... the kids love the extra row of seats in the back and I love how it drives and handles like a normal (albeit heavy) car......
I was driving a mondeo, but when I acquired the terri my wife started driving the mondeo .... still enjoy driving them both, although you do get spoilt with the terri, being a newer and more powerful vehicle .....
