ZF 6 Speed ? 6HP24 (Ford 6R)
ZF use the last two digits as a code for the torque rating of the unit, I think 26 is the highest.
A "mechatronic" internal module marries electronic controls to mechanical actuators, providing the driver with both fully-automatic and button-shift modes.
Putting six forward ratios in was accomplished by mating a traditional Ravigneau planetary gear set to a newly developed Lepelletier gear set.
1st - 4.17
2nd - 2.34
3rd - 1.52
4th - 1.14
5th - 0.87
6th - 0.69
Reverse - 3.40

You're just too techo for your own good johnydep
In all seriousness though, most people are going to be keen on this unit because it's already being used with VERY high torque engines. The Aussie Fords will not be an issue at all. All Ford will need to fix will be the drive shafts and diffs and everyone will be happy.
Is Tiptronic in this gearbox, or is it the awful Holden button press set? I love tiptronic in my Terri, and if this is taken out, Ford will feel the heat. I hope we don't get the J Box.

Im guessin this box would be pared with say a 3.08:1 diff to allow for 1700rpm cruise @ 100, whilst still offering decent take off with its quite lowe 4.17:1 1st???

Yes, lets hope they get the diff ration correct.
This will make the Territory a world class SUV, it will have the poke required for easy take off and the legs for relaxed high speed cruise.
FORD, hurry up and bring it on.
Whats up with that J gate box found in Jags? I heard it's crap, and people don't want that version of the ZF in Falcons. Anyone can shed some more light on it?

I just hope the fact that this was posted on drive on April 1st doesn't leave us all deflated.

J gate will be no longer in future model Jags. Its just the shifter anyway, so theres no reason why the current style BA shifter couldnt be on the new trans
