Territory sales in March were 2275 (http://www.automotivepersonnel.com.au/news/).

Compare Prado 1561, Pajero 791, Kluger 710, Adventra 89 (what a rout!). Territory was 6th biggest selling marque for month after Commodore, Falcon Corolla, Astra and Mazda 3. I get the feeling they would have sold more in the post COTY period but production seems to be behind demand.

Anybody know where the sales are coming from? The Japanese 4WDs took an initial drop when Territory came out but have posted fairly steady monthly figures since. So where are Territory buyers coming from?

I reckon some would have come from car type wagons, as well as the 4WD market, but a lot are probably coming from people who would never have thought of buying a new car.

I was one of those, always thought buying a new car was a waste of money because of the depreciation, but when I saw the Territory I changed my mind & went straight to the dealer with my family in tow.

Thanks russellw, good survey. With the low starting price of the TX I guess it would naturally attract a lot of interest from the small suv market - they can get a lot more car for not much more money. I also think one reason that Klugers etc have held on is that there was some pretty desperate price cutting after the release of the Territory. I feel sorry for anybody who bought a Kluger before mid last year.

Hey what's happened to the fordless thread on this forum? That was great value. Boy that Toyota crowd don't take defeat very well!

Just noticed Russ I think you have the Kluger and Prado lines reversed in the SUV chart - the Prado is the bigger seller of the two.

I've checked the numbers and unless the published info from VFacts is wrong the order is correct.

Thanks Russ but unless I'm going colourblind its the Prado that sells in the 1500s mark (light blue line) and the Kluger that sells in the 600-700s (red line). The names in the key in the top left corner need to be reversed.

Correct - the labels are back to front. Fixed now.

I was like that myself ... I was looking around for a newish vehicle and the Territory was available ... after I test drove one across a weekend (I knew the dealer) ... I fell in love with it ... and it was perfect for our needs. And I had money at the right time as well.

Once I drove it ... I made my mind up straight away ... the only hard thing was deciding what options I wanted ... hee hee
