In our Ghia the seat moves the slightest bit when you are driving... is this acceptable or normal? its bloody annoying and now I wish we had gotten a TS with the stadard non electric seat. :hippy:

That is not normal.

The seat in my Ghia is rock solid.

I did read another post somewhere, with the same complaint as yours, they got the seat replaced.

I've had this problem since new. After waiting since before Easter for parts, I got it repaired this week. The service report said they repalced a track. It's better but still a but bumpy. The seat itself doesnt move when I'm driving, I just noticed the bumpiness when I moved it. I think I'm going to live with it now but quite a few others had the same issue. CHeck fordforums.com under Territory and look for 'Crunchy Power seat' or something like that.

If your seat is moving - get it fixed

The seat in my car moves when I accelerate or break. I am used to it, but I do want to get it fixed. I did a hard stop on my way home from the Football tonight, and I thought I was going to go through the windscreen. I have already had the seat fixed (when I got the Ping fixed) but the problem has shown its face again, and with me driving to Albury on Monday, I am not looking forward to the seat moving every time I overtake a car. I must get it fixed when it goes in for the 15,000 Km service, which will be next week at the rate I am going

Mine has also started the move when braking or accelerating hard. This has just started but I found out that I can have a temporary fix by a very slight back/forward adjustment. It also has the crunchy rails symptom but for some strange reason not all the time. I'll wait untill it gets worse before I take in for a fix. They mave have a modified rail that lasts longer by then.

Mmm they had trouble getting the parts to fix it, ordered one in but it was a FAIRMONT GHIA one which was different apparently...

We are going to have to keep on top of this as its not acceptable that the seat moves when drive...

I have exactly the same problem which I plan on getting fixed next service. I also have the bumpy movement problem when adjusting the seat.

Should be a recall if you ask me.... faulty seats are a SAFETY issue. In an accident the seat will fly forward before you hit the airbag... almost as deadly as not wearing a seatbelt.....

Might end up that way if it effects the seat belt pre-tensioners.

My TX Territory's seat has started moving now too, only the slightest bit too... I guess another trip to the dealer for a warranty job!

My Ghia has started the "Chrunchy" forward and backward movements. I found some small ball bearings just under the seat, so suspect a broken part. The 15k service found nothing wrong with the seat. The Dealer response ....."they all do it!!"
Now What?

We got our new seat base fitted yesturday after 3 months of calling the dealer each week...

All I can say is its fixed and the deal we have now is that no one moves the seat while sitting on it, everyone moves it to where they want it before they sit on it, I think this may have been the cause.

Still, the seat should be able to cope with someone sitting in it. THis is not exactly a new technology in cars. So I guess you tried moving the seat at least once with someone sitting in it after the base was replaced. Did the new base fix the problem ? They replaced a seat track on mine a few months ago and the problem is back as bad as ever.

When I was getting my door fixed, I raised the crunchy drivers seat again. The Service guys didnt want to replace the base again (over $2000 cost to Ford to do that last time!) so they spoke to Ford's engineering people and on their suggestion, fitted (or replaced, not sure) a small clamping device to the seat track. They just unbolted the seat from the track and fitted the part. Seems much better, let's see if it lasts this time!

Just had the base replaced.

It doesn't do the back adn forward jogging thing but it still crunches. Will live with it unless it starts to wobble again.

Why can't they fix this stuff?

This seat issue is piss-poor. Does it happen on Fairmonts?

bfiipursuit

I think it use to happen on Fairmonts...

Ford wont hear the end of it if it happens on ours again...

The Territory still needs alot of Development Time I think, bit like the BA Falcon when it first came out.

Suggest you take the seats to the dealer to get fitted with a "Seat Track Dampener Clip" to remove any freeplay within the system. There is a Technical Service Bulletin that has been raised to address this issue (TSB 29/05). This should address all 6 way power seat tracks on Territory and BA's. All vehicles built in the BA & Territory range prior 15th May 2005 are "potentially" affected to varying degrees. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that Sherlock and welcome to the forums.

For future reference, could you post a copy of TSB 29/05

Cheers.

I cant be sure sure but I suspect this is the part that was fitted to my seat a few weeks ago. At the time, the service rep was doubtful that it would fix the crunchiness in my seat track. He was right, it didnt last long and now it's as bad as ever. If someone has this fitted and it makes a long term improvement, I'd be interested, but for me, it's on the list again for the 15,000 service. I would also be interested in seeing the TSB if available.

So, its been some time and I've had the TSB done on my 'crunchy seat' movement HOWEVER, I seem to have problems now with my electric seat adjustment 'MOVING' whilst driving. Its very strange and not easily reproducable but when driving the seat has a mind of its own and starts to reposition (usually in an upward motion).

Has anyone else experienced this?

NOTE. This is separate to the crunchy rail movement problem which I have had previous fixed with the new clip assembly.

Hate to bring up an old thread (but I STILL have the problem), but LS, have you still got the problem with your electric seat? I've had enough and am contacted FORD CRC in writing! 6 visits to a dealer and still not fixed - I've had enough! :box:

Mate - I'll PM you and we should discuss this more. I've contacted FORD in writing now about this and any other instances of seat problems such as this would be welcome in my discussions. Of course, they suggest I'm the only one with this problem but I've already got details of 2 separate cases! I'll send you an email in the next few days.

I have taken my Ghia back to the dealer 3 times for the Drivers seat. Each time I have been told that it is normal. I have conducted an investigation and have found the following:

The slides (forward and backward movement) has ball bearings that allow the top slide to move over the bottom slide. The ball bearings are retained in between the slides by a small grey plastic retainer which is simply pushed into the gap between the 2 slides. If this retainer becomes loose, forward movement of the seat pushes the ball bearings out onto the floor. I found ball bearings on the front floor which prompted my investigation.

The solution is the ensure that the plastic retainer is firmly (interference fit)
fitted between the 2 slides. I have as yet, not decided how reintroduce the ball bearings back between the 2 slides.

I'm VERY interested to read this post. Knox have been unable to fix mine after almost 2 years now. I've had two new seat bases, control modules and other electrical parts.
I've got nothing against Knox, they still do my all my servicing and I'm quite happy with the service I'm getting, they are just unable to find and locate the problem! I wrote to FORD HQ and to date have had no response!
Do keep this thread updated won't you if the problem returns. I'd be very interested to hear about it.
Good luck!

Hi,

I recently bought a 2nd hand Oct 04 AWD Ghia model.
Initially I had the slight seat movement when driving, and when I took the car in for a service I mention the problem and from this forum the following :

I had a new seat installed and that removed the free play, which was great but.......

Now I've got a problem where the seat is failing to remember it's position, but it's intermittent.
The seat resets it's self to either the lowest or highest position.
Sometimes the seat adjustment doesn't actually go up or down.

Now when we get in the car we have a game of "Guess the position of the seat".

Some days the seat will only go up, other days only down.
Actually it's not different days, you could go shopping and have different problems, or none at all.
It's very intermittent issue.

I taken it back to Courtney and Paterson in Melbourne and the change a module,
but I've still got the same problem, so it wasn't the module they changed, I'm taking it back next week.

Have you guys any ideas ?
