Jost Capito, the man responsible for Ford's TeamRS and SVT performance vehicle division, has moved to head up Volkswagen Motorsport. Capito takes over from Kris Nissen, who will support the former Ford man and will subsequently assist the Volkswagen Group in an advisory capacity.

It is currently unclear who will replace Capito as director, global performance vehicles and motorsport business development at Ford. Capito's move will be effective from May 1.

Capito was previously chief operating officer at the Sauber Red Bull Formula 1 team. He is a previous winner of the Paris-Dakar rally. Since joining Ford in 2001, Ford has produced an enviable line-up of performance vehicles.

A statement from Ford said: "We'd like to thank Jost Capito for his contribution at Ford for performance vehicles and motorsport. We wish him well in the next chapter of his career".

Kris Nissen has been director of Volkswagen Motorsport since 2003. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, member of the board of management of the Volkswagen brand said: "Mr. Nissen has taken Volkswagen Motorsport a long way forward and led the Motorsport team during the most successful phase in its history so far.

"He was instrumental in Volkswagen’s double victory at the 2009 Dakar Rally and helped write motorsport history with the one-two-three podium finishes in 2010 and 2011."

The Original Focus RS was launched during Capito's time at Ford and more recently he has overseen the development of the Focus ST, which will be launched later this year.
