Apart from the obvious front wheel drive to rear wheel drive issue.......
Given the motor was Mazda sourced (as far as I know), you could probably get an MX5 equivalent setup and put that in.
I do know of a MX5 motor + box into a Mk2 Cortina 1600E, mit supercharger. Very nice job and a real sleeper. Appeared in Zoom magazine about 10yrs ago.
