All the 2015 Mondeos now have EPAS (electric power assisted steering). There is no engine driven pump as in previous models. EPAS has a torque sensing transducer on the steering input shaft. The output from the transducer is translated by a processor to deliver a signal to an electric motor that then assists the steering input force. The main advantage is no power consuming constantly driven hydraulic pump. The EPAS only needs electrical energy when the steering wheel is turned and is proportional to the required assistance.
