When my father started out, an average male wage could afford to
-buy a house
-buy a car
-get married to a woman (who did not have paid work)
-raise a family
It's MUCH harder for my generation and it's going to be MUCH harder again for my kids generation.
The question that needs to be asked is
"Is this what we want for Australian society?"

You can still do that, if you buy the same modest house and modest car, get rid of all the luxuries, etc etc.
My first place was a three bedroom townhouse with no A/C, for ten years we has a water bottle and a pedestal fan to get us through summer, drove a $2000 car for 15 years that we ran into the ground.
