We might be concerned about what we are now paying per litre of petrol, but European drivers have been paying more than that for almost a decade.

Australia is still the 4th cheapest for petrol among the 33 countries in the OECD and the 6th for diesel and that’s largely due to relatively low fuel taxes.

The Federal Government’s take of 41.2 cents in the dollar for fuel excise plus 10% GST seems exorbitant but it’s not as high as most other countries in the OECD.
