Toyota's overall lead with Hilux over Ranger is due to Toyota's willingness to pursue 4x2 single cabs at the lower end of the market.

I have always wondered why Ford couldn't push a bit harder with 4x2. I know it apparently sacrifices profit but there has always been a certain degree of bragging rights having the number one spot, and the confidence it build in the brand overall.
