The ford engine is better in that the 1.0 and 1.5 hold max torque through about 5000 rpm where VW/Skoda 1.0 /1.4/1.5 engines only hold max torque to 3500 rpm.

The Scala is the newer 1.5 engine. Golf has the older 1.4 engine. Both are same kw and torque.

I was talking to the Skoda service office guys last Friday at the dealer and they rate the Scala ahead of its SUV sister which is Kamiq.

The only thing with Fabia wagon are they are not pretty especially from the rear. New model out next year.

briskoda blog site in the UK has a lot of user chat about Skoda models including Scala.

Its a crying shame Ford walked away from its manual gearbox customers but apparently demand for manuals has fallen off a cliff.
