Demand has dropped off so much that we missed the wave and now they're sitting on the shelf collecting dust
Case in point that you need to design and release something shortly after a car hits the showroom rather than when you start receiving demand.
Lost sales is a lag measure, if you act on lost sales you end up missing the opportunity and carrying excess stock.
