If it’s an expensive fix it may pay to speak to a consumer law specialist.
I’m not 100% up on the Australian laws but my understanding was that the manufacturer has to prove that the part failed due to your negligence and using the vehicle for a purpose it’s not fit for and not due to a manufacturing fault.
The onus is on them to provide prove as part of their rejection of warranty.
You'd definitely want whatever determination they come up with to be presented to you in writing.
Someone with an extensive knowledge of these laws would be my first avenue of approach.
