So its one where the key goes around the nut not in the centre? If its an outside style take a photo and ask a tyre shop, theyre notorious for 'forgetting' to return peoples lock nut keys. That happened to a girlfriend of mine, but her locknuts were the insert style, so that was simple. A chisel and a big hammer to belt it in, then a big set of multugrips to crack the nut and it spun it out by hand.

No the pattern is in the middle not the outside of the locknut and the pattern has worn to the extent that it just slips and wont grab to undo.
