If you buy via an eCommerce site, such as ebay, Amazon, etc, then they are obliged to collect the GST. Otherwise, your goods should be impounded as they come in and you have to pay the GST then.
A lot of small things still slip through.

If you are under the aud1000 threshold and didn’t get charged Gst by the vendor (those who have to ie ebay, Amazon, etc) then you won’t pay Gst or duty.
