Shame about the van. If the cables are going to fail, it will almost only ever happen during wind up. Its a bit fiddly but they are reasonably easy to fix as well if you don't mind mucking about. I've not done mine but my brother has replaced some cables as has a mate.

I liked the solution. Rather ingenious and simple. Glad the rest of the stay was good for you and them.
