These engines use an air start system whereby a distributor allows 30 Bar air into each cylinder, at the correct time, which then forces the piston down. The distributor then shuts the air off prior to BDC and then opens up the next cylinder in line. This process continues until the fuel pumps are stroked up and when the revs rise, the air start system shuts down.
