I mean come on! Maybe he was just 'simplifying' things for the customer but the PLUG on the Mondeo is just a standard OBD. What he didn't have was the right tool/software.
To be frank, I think you've actually been a bit lucky with the car overall. It sounds like you are used to Aussie fords - this is actually a European car just with a blue oval on it. Euro's can cost a fortune to look after and parts are harder to come by. Also with diesels it's /really/ important to take care of the oil. God help you if they filled it with oil for a petrol along with the filter! !
