If it is a valve it's likely the turbo vacuum boost control valve.
If there are two of these valves the one closer to the front is the egr vacuum control valve.
It differs from an electrical buzz in sounding more fart like.
These valves are identical and you can swap them round for testing.
MC has just one for the turbo, egr went electrical.
They can be recognised by distinctive brown colour and three vacuum ports.
May or may not affect turbo performance.
Mine made a noise for a few years before I replaced it.
