My dad had a 1600 GT as his first car, he did a similar V8 conversion to the one youre planning, and it was from all reports a damn quick car in its day. His mates still talk about it! It was also vermillion fire.
He kept it for about 20 years and then ended up selling it, apparently mum had enough of trying to park and go shopping etc with 500+HP and a locker!!!
One thing i remember is as a kid always burning my butt on the hot black vinyl and seat belt clips
