smoo - The soot trapped in the DPF is burned into ash as part of the regeneration process but the ash slowly builds up over time inside the DPF so the DPF's will need periodic cleaning or replacement.
DPF's are a bullcrap device put in place to meet the B.S. requirements of the Global warming B.S. poltical correct greenies. My diesel vehicle simply didn't work properly with the DPF in place and I would be extremly reluctant to buy another diesel from any manufacturer with a DPF.
Diesel Terry hasn't got one...that would be my choice if I was in the market for that sort of vehicle. No DPF, they handle and go pretty well, lay-down maziare hand if you ask me.
