It's an issue with the vehicle, not the way it's driven. The problem still occurs on cars that have met the required conditions for a burn off. Toyota also fitted a burn off switch to the dash, but it hasn't fixed the problem.

If it wasn't that it was a genuine issue with the Toyotas, all new diesel vehicles would do it, cause a lot of drivers don't ever get them to burn off conditions, and they don't have the widespread issues Toyota drivers do.

But I get what you are saying and many new diesel owners have no clue about dpf issues, and what is required to prevent them.
