Ford have confirmed a 30% increase in models available here.
Thats three(?) new vehicles. So what do we think they are? Ecosport (confirmed) Ranger Wagon/Everest Mustang Transit Custom F-series What else is a possibility?

Care factor zero as far as I'm concerned. They may as well be Hyundais or Kias.

Not Taurus, the RHD version is no longer in development
I would say Mustang, next gen Ford Edge, Fusion, Everest/Endeavour and maybe the Transit Connect/Custom.

The Ford media release announcing this was horrendously bad. They were effectively saying the loss of Australian made Fords, the ending of the Falcon legacy, the crush to the manufacturing industry and the loss of 1200 jobs was an exciting time for Ford. The result is I have no care whatsoever about what these 30% new models are.

Yeap that was such a marketing masterstroke, no wonder they are in this position. Not much sugar left in the jar to coat anything, they should have waited because it doesnt take einstein to work out that they will fill the Territory gap and then need a halo car to lift the brand again.
There is going to be alot of short term resistance to any Ford product by the general market id say. I was going to say something in the major thread but knew the zombies would not like Sinead, or whoever copied and pasted that paragraph from FB, to be questioned.

The last few months theres been countless threads, all of them the bloddy same thing over & over sticking the shiv into ford because of lack of info on future of falcon. Now they have been completey transparent and given info on fords future 3 years in advance. But lets stick the shiv in again anyway Regarding the "exciting new future".............. what did you expect them to give a doom & gloom speech? The general buying public whom doesnt give 2 hoots about the finer details of the media release, will just see all this as Ford is the titanic, sinking ship, glad i didnt buy from them blah blah... Its important they convince the public that Ford will be a better company without the falcon............. or how else are they to survive here? Public perception is already at an all time low. |

There is a time and a place - after making cars here for decades and being part of the Australian landscape and with the loss of 1200 jobs - you dont try to sound excited or also mention changes to capped price servicing in the same bloody release. It was like it was written by a work experience student, following weekend course marketing 101 in writing press releases rather than someone who understands the subtleties of building a corporate image by somewhat respecting the level of sombreness and sadness in the announcement - I think acknowledging the seriousness of the decision would have been more beneficial for Ford on this occasion. I just thought it was a little insensitive. Last edited by Brazen; 24-05-2013 at 01:13 PM. |

"No Falcon, no deal"...given they are selling in such low numbers it's not profitable, apparently the huge majority of buyers going to Ford now for vehicles don't share that sentiment. Look at the top ten cars sold over the last year:
1. Mazda3 2. Toyota Corolla 3. Holden Commodore 4. Holden Cruze 5. Hyundai i30 6. Toyota Camry 7. Toyota Yaris 8. Ford Focus 9. Mazda2 10. Volkswagen Golf Not a Falcon to be seen. The board and investors look at things like that, and ask difficult questions such as "why are you still wasting money building a car that isn't selling?". They're not going to keep hemorrhaging money just to keep a vanishingly small number of enthusiasts happy or to appeal to "tradition". That's business. 85% of cars sold in Australia are built overseas. The majority of buyers are voting with their feet and, especially these days, their hip pocket. |

On 3AW today the Ford President very carefully stated that the Falcon badge will be retired after production in Broadmeadows stops. So no import will ever carry the Falcon badge. Just before he said this he spoke of the Falcon and Territory production both ending in Oct 2016 but he never said the Territory badge would be retired. Had me wondering why he was specific on Falcon and very measured in what he said.

Because they may reuse the Territory badge on another (imported) car.

I would certainly hope T6 SUV will be on sale long before October 2016 and if that happens they obviously can't call 2 models the same name.

I think from a product stand point, Everest was coming anyway, Mustang was too eventually so maybe now they'll bring Edge. Depending on what they mean by new models and where that stood a few months ago, there might be more models like a single large bodystyle, maybe next gen Explorer.

What will Ford release to replace the Falcon, what large size passenger vehicle will they sell?
I'd like to see the F Series truck and Mustang on sale here.

They dont need to replace the Falcon because as a product - its in free fall decline and isnt something that needs to be replaced. Question really is.......what medium sized car will FORD try and sell to address what the public really wants. They need to look at a lot more small capacity petrol and diesel / turbo diesel options if they are seriously going to compete. Otherwise the next step is mass dealership shutdowns........ We will be servicing our Fords for warranty work at Hyuandai dealerships. |
