G'day Jack, i think i remmember seeing it for sale in the late 80's, some magazine or paper with an average photo. Can't remmember $, but pretty sure it was the one.
Cheers Rob. ![]() Just noticed that it appears to be an xa/xb with an xc front!.....Interesting! |

When I saw the pic, it reminded me of the coupe that Darryl owns in "Love the Beast"
![]() Great looking car! You would HAVE to have been happy to win that!

I have all the build mags for this coupe.... not bad for a 27 year old.... Thats the plus of having a brother 12 years older.

I remember eagerly waiting for the each issue of SM when they were building this up. Loved it at the time, apart from the god awful Mitsubishi Starion console KB put in it!!!

Kevin Bartlett tuned the suspension on this car at Oran Park.
He used alot of the same suspension parts and setting that were used on '74 Bathurst winner he shared with JG. I don't know where the car is located these days, but I've heard it is in very good condition and still runs well. Just thinking, I think it would be great to see a Street Machine giveaway car reunion. Image seeing HQFORU, Castrol Coupe, The GMP&A A9X, ONE HO TO GO, Sony Scorcher VUFORU and The Southern Comfort Cruiser in the same place for the first time.

![]() Just like how FPV do it today ![]() The suspension was just off-the-shelf K-Mac items and I always thought it needed bigger rubber. Those weedy 16" Simmons rims were too small even back then. Still be good to see it again today though ![]()

Can somebody tell the current owner of the Castrol Coupe, that Street Machine Magazine is currently searching for there old cover cars for there upcoming anniversary edition. If you know the owner can you please tell him to contact the magazine,as I would love to see a follow up story on the old coupe!

So the rims were big enough, just needed 295 tyres. I also entered for this. Would sure be nice to see the beast today.
