Default escort mk11 fuel filler question

do all Australian delivered Escorts mk11 have the fuel filler behind the rear licence plate?
i have seen a fair few with the fille rin the more conventional place on the (right) rear quarter panel.
does this mean they were not au delivered? perhaps even NZ?
cheers
joe

I think the rear fuel filler is for the 2L models which have the drop tank and the side fill is for 1600 with the tank mounted in the boot

the rear filler was for late model cars - dont quote me on the exact date, but I think it was around late 77-78 models that it changed. both 1600's & 2ltr cars had rear fillers on these shells

I have 5 mk2 escorts sitting in my yard and 4 more to come home yet. One 1979 ghia 1600 has the fuel tank in the right rear quarter about 35 ltr. the others both 1.6 and 2 ltr are drop tanks about 45 litre and vary from 1973 to 1979.
Another ghia still to come home has the side tank, was 2 ltr, the others are drop tanks both 1.6 and 2 ltr.
Cheers Les

it was only the Aust delivered cars that came with rear fillers, it was not an option to either have a side tank or drop tank, if a car has a drop tank before late 77 then it has been retro fitted (which is very easy to do)

My old RS had a retro fitted secondary side tank and with a fuel line a pump connected for it to top up the main tank if needed. I was therefore able to hold 80 litres.
