Default P Plates- First Car?

Been thinking about my first car, which i have been saving for and I'm after some advice. Have my heart set on a BA or BF Xr6, and would love a manual. Anyone have any advice on which is a better car/transmission and why? Would hate to buy a car and realise that somethings amiss or whatnot.
Cheers

You'll also need to factor in insurance for whatever car you pick. A LOT of places still won't want to know you if you're under 30 - even in an NA 6.

I bought mine at 21, and only two places would touch it. The place I ended up going with was $1500/year, but have now sent me a letter stating their business has changed and will no longer cover me after the current policy runs out, because I'm under 30 (28).

Ouch! At 23 (2009) I only paid $350 for a stock BA futura. I'm now paying about $550 because of mods.

BA Xr6 - 4 speed auto and 5 speed manual - 182kw engine

BF Xr6 - 4 speed auto standard, 6 speed auto option and 6 speed manual standard - 190kw engine

For utes its only 4 speed auto standard, 5 speed manual standard.

BF has a little less headaches, other then that, not much difference.

BA has different tail lights to BF, standard wheels are different and the front bumper.

The joys of living in Sydney.

Quick quote on a 2004 BA Futura for market value - $ 1,208.22 annually
or $109.62 monthly. I'm 40, rating 1, no incidents in 5+ years.

Oh sorry the cars in my sig aren't road going. The Mazda is nans old car and our paddock bomb ( we live on a farm), the Escort is a race car and the XF is for burnouts. I mean has anyone got any ideas on why, for a p plater, an auto or manual might be better?

Dont know if being a P plater or not matters BradZ. Depends on how good a driver you are. Some younguns should stick to auto's but many others are fine with manuals. If you are really comfortable with a manual and prefer changing gears, that should do you. At your age I guess you might want to "drive" the car, rather than sit back and relax. When it comes to servicing, would you or someone in your family rather service an auto trans or a man gearbox? I cant see it being much different insurance wise except to say it may be a little cheaper, probably due market value of the car, rather than combining a P plater and a manual. If that makes any sense.

cheers

Good point, seeing as I'm after a BF which has a ZF standard, or as an option?

My first car was/is a BA XR6 auto.
If I could have my time over, I'd do a few things differently.
1) It would def be a manual. Tiptronic, while good, is not half as good as a manual.
2) It would have some factory options. Little things like full power windows, large colour scree, LSD, etc, would make a good car great.
3) It would probably be a BF. As good as the BA is, and I love mine, the BF sorts out some little bugs that are around in BA. I probably should have saved for just a little bit longer, but I guess the excitment of having my license got the better of me.
Don;t get me wrong, if you end up in a BA auto with pov pack, you'll still love it. I know I do. But a BF manual with some extras would be a very great car to have.
