Unhappy BRITISH teenager died in a car crash caused by a snail

Snail caused car crash that killed UK teen

From: NewsCore February 01, 2011 8:16AM

A BRITISH teenager died in a car crash caused by a snail, a coroner has ruled.

Katie Dagley, 19, died instantly in the head-on crash on a stoplight-controlled bridge in Alvecote, near Birmingham in central England, local newspaper the Sunday Mercury reported.

Dagley, who worked at McDonald's, was driving home from work in August when her Ford Ka hit an oncoming Fiat after the lights on the single-lane bridge failed to give out a stop warning.

Returning a verdict of accidental death after his investigation, coroner Sean McGovern said a snail left its trail across the lights’ circuit board, which caused it to short-circuit shortly before the incident.

My comment : How did the snail get inside the traffic lights, circuit board?

Now if that was Australia the headline would read, "P Plater killed in accident at traffic light, Police suspect speed was a factor, RSPCA charging traffic light manufacturer with negligence".

But is saying that this was yet another tragedy, Rest in Peace Katey........

Its so true..

When I saw the thread I thought it was going to be someone who saw a snail on their dashboard, **** themselves and tried to hit it away, which caused them to crash.

Single lane bridge. Bridges are usually straight. How does the deceased not see the oncoming car? (assuming the bridge is straight.)

Terrible thing to happen....R.i.p.

Unfortunately, a lot of these single lane bridges in the Uk are over a 100 years old and have a hump in the middle that once allowed coal barges or shipping to go under. Very highly possible that she did not see the other car until too late.

May she rest in peace.

My girlfriend's friend from school crashed whilst eating a mandarin.
He was attempting to un-stick the sead from his finger on the edge of the mirror when he ran up a row of protective barriers.
The police laughed at him, as did everyone else he told.
