Default What brake setup does this AU2 XR6 VCT have?

Sorry to dig up an old topic, I did a search and found this thread useful:
http://fordforums.com.au/showthread....um+brake+specs

Basically I'm planning to overhaul my brakes and I read through the above thread's posts, and russellw's link as well in that thread. I'm a little confused though about my car's brake rotors and their sizes - so can I please get some help from peeps who know the specs of AU brakes and AU Tickford Premiums?..

These photos are of my front brakes:

And these are of the rears:

Can anyone tell me why the rears are grooved yet the fronts are not? I measured the rotors and the diameters for fronts and rears are the same as what's listed in that thread for the Tickford Premium brakes.

So why no groves on the front? Did the previous owner save some cash when it was time to replace the gooved ones, or am I kidding myslef and this isn't actually a Premuim brake setup but some sort of hodge podge setup?

I don't want to go to the trouble of buying new Tickford Premium spec rotors (grooved and probably from DBA - someone please tell me if there's better for the price) only to find that they don't fit.

What's everyone's take? Does this AU2 XR6 have premium brakes or not?

The rotors are vented at the front and solid on the rears.

Cheers in advance

Yes, it does have AU Tickford Premium Brakes....

I'd say that the previous owner couldn't find the proper Tickford rotors for the front so just got some standards for the front, but didn't have to replace the rears....

Maybe the grooves are simply "worn out" of the front rotors. You will have to measure the rotor thickness to verify if this is the case; or whether someone has simply replaced with standard rotors. However the slotted rotors (non-genuine) are really not that much more expensive than non-slotted so i can't understand why anyone would do this. My money is on the rotors being down below min. thickness.

Wow really?!! I read somewhere that those grooves are 1.5mm deep, so for them to be completely gone on both sides would mean that 3mm of the rotors have disapeared - that's a large chunk isn't it?

In any case whether they're the wrong ones or worn out, deffinitely time for new rotors me thinks.

Anyone else agree that this is a premium brake setup?

I don't know how many times you need to ask this.. Everyone has basically said yes..!
Do a search on Tickford Premium Brakes and make the judgement yourself if you are really that unsure..

YES, they are Tickford Premium brakes...!

That's correct - 3mm wear is the limit for premium rotors. One of the reasons Ford stipulated no more than 1.5 deep grooves - most Joes can't tell when their pads are worn out so the idea of a simple visual at the grooves tells him straight up.

Also note this; they wear at the same rate as the pads - well, I should clarifythat; the OE ones do. After market rotors generally last for two sets of pads.

Jeez settle mate, just want as an informed oppinion as I can get. I'm no mechanic nor have I had one of these cars before so I want to be sure before I spend my hard earned. I have done that search, check the link at the top of the thread.

T3man thanks for the info. I bet that my rotors are acually well past it (even by more than 3mm) as they have a pretty good groove in them.. Previous owner looking more and more average by the day...

Still an awesome car though.
