Default Mondeo ST24 Information

Hi all

I recently bought a 2000 st24 Mondeo from a from an auction here in Adelaide and was looking for some information if someone could help me out.

I love the car and it drives great but the paint work on the bonnet, roof & boot is badly faded and the clear coat is peeling off.

I was wondering if anyone knows how many ST24 models were sold in Australia and is it worth spending the money having it repainted.

Also if there are any places in Australia that might be good to find interior/Exterior parts for these models.

Thanks

There are a couple of pages and specs for the ST25 in the Mondeo Brochure scan - there weren't many sold and they sold slowly mainly because they were quite expensive for what they were. I know my local dealership had one that was almost 2 years old which ended up being sold for $18k below RRP just to move it.

Cheers
Russ

Hi Vidude,
According to Ford Australia, they sold 166 ST24s. Probably less than 100 are still on the road across the country I'd say by now.
They are a great, very underrated car with a very solid Duratec V6.
The only real main thing to do with them is replace the transistor in the IMRC box that sits under the front engine cover. Ford's positioning of this on top of the front cylinder bank wasn't ideal and the transistor burns out due to heat soak. In essence, having this not working robs you of about 50% of your engine's power above 3500RPM.
Most people in Australia who own one don't even realise their car is not running as it should because it performs just fine below 3500rpm but only so/so above it.
There are plenty of how to pages if you google this. TIP122 is the transistor number you need and it needs to be soldered to the circuit board in the IMRC housing. Only telling you this because you won't believe the difference it makes to the car's performance!
As for parts, the occasional car that pops up at a wreckers will be your best bet, otherwise there are parts specialists aplenty in the UK.
You can pretty much forget Ford Australia for spares for this model, although the odd cross over part does exists here and there.
I love these cars so would say go ahead and freshen her up because there aren't many left on the roads here.
All the best and good luck!

Thanks Russellw and BC1000stars for the information.
Now that I know how rare these cars are here in Australia I will spend a bit of money on the paint work and get her looking good again.
I haven't seen any on the roads here in SA since I purchased her at the start of the year at a car auction for the bargain price of $450 Dollars.
Not a bad deal I thought at the time for a 2000 model car with 145,000 ks on the clock.
It wasn't until I got it home that I found out the it was the ST24 model.
I will post up some pics once shes all painted up.

Thanks again for your help
