Default Miss you all!

Hey guys,

Just a quick one... I will miss the cruise/dinners etc. I'm giving up the Fiesta. Have been marketing it for a week now and I'm getting low offers, but they are rolling in! Sorry I missed the last dinner... had work (remember i rocked up late in a Suit) and then my aunt passed away later that night... so it was kind of good that i wasn't out eatting and I was home with the parents.

So, I guess it will hopefully be gone within a few weeks. In saying that, i guess i wont be able to go on another cruise (even if i had the time - i don't need more Ks on the Fiesta).

However, once i do get my new ride (which most of you know will be)... I will come to one last cruise to show you all what it is all about!

p.s. If i have the Fiesta for a little while longer.... i will still be on the forum, however due to keeping the Ks low, i need to save Ks racked up, so unfortunately another drive day is out of the question. Sorry :(

Yeah teki, your part of the club and your not getting out of it that easily !!!!

I have only ever made it to one cruise (mainly because i work from 9am to midnight on saturdays and usually the whole working day on sundays) so it sort of makes it difficult to go to cruises because they are usualy on the weekend !

But teki, if there is a cruise nearby in sydney you will have to come :P

Hes saying the RSC 182 is a 'wana be' ford... hence ford in training ! :P and hes only joking!

If you read his sig its saying the fiesta is better than the focus. but underneath that it says his focus is the zetec... and we all know its got the more powerfull 2 litre motor. So indirectly hes bagging everyone who owns a
1.8L focus OR FIESTA !!!! jk :P

I'm sorry Matt... but Ford is always a little late on their releases. The XR5T... about 2 years after the hatch boom began...

Then the Fiesta... took them a while!

So, it is only logical to switch to the car the Fiesta tries to be :P The 182 is still the benchmark....

Might I remind you that the Clio Sport is nothing new... just a rehash of other people's ideas...

1978 VW Golf GTi
The car that created the hot hatch nameplate and rewrote the rules for fun in a small front wheel drive.



And of course then there was Peugeot with the almighty 205 GTi in 1984 which redefnined the rules yet again and pushed the GTi aside...


Then there's Renault's limited run of Clio Williams (400 made to homologate for Rally) released in 1993. A honey of a car but victim of it's limited availability in that none made it around the world to build Renault's brand.


But let's not forget the car that briefly killed the hot-hatch, GTi-style cars in 1992 and started the AWD Turbo craze, predating the WRX in 1993... and it was a Ford. :



The Ford Escort Cosworth seems to have entered popular folklore as the car that, for a while at least, killed the hot hatch. Here was a car so quick, so capable and yet so desirable to neer-do-wells that the insurance industry threw a hissy fit, made it all but uninsurable and applied the same policy to anything with a GTi badge on it. Whilst history may record a black mark against the Escort Cosworth, anybody who ever drove it could almost understand frustrated young men wanting to get behind the wheel at any cost. It was that good.

Even by todays standards it more than shapes up, making tracking down a decent used example a fascinating experience

An icon. That and a supremely practical hatchback to go with the loud suit.

Superb. The only area in which the Escort RS Cosworth feels a little old fashioned is in its sit-up-and-beg driving position, but otherwise its still got the wherewithal to show any of todays hot hatch pretenders its chubby behind and that includes the cream of the crop like the Audi S3 and the Renault Clio V6. Chalking up performance figures of 0-60 in 5.7 seconds, the Escort feels beautifully balanced at all times, the four-wheel drive split with a rearwards bias to satisfy gung-ho drivers.

Few four-wheel drive sports cars are easy to balance in a drift but the Escort Cosworth makes such antics easy. The later small turbo cars are probably the drivers choice, despite only packing 220bhp up front. Top speed was 140mph with the rear wing in place or 147mph should you choose to remove it. Do bear in mind that driving an Escort RS Cosworth still appears to be viewed as an offence by many constabularies.

As long as you can afford the insurance and dont mind the slightly thuggish image, the Escort RS Cosworth is a car that can delight like few others. Despite being the car that temporarily killed the GTi genre, theres never been anything quite like it before or since. A classic in the making.

You might give both nuts for one, I'd probably give both nuts just to drive a pristine, low km example of one for a week!

A sweet, sweet car, and one that, in my opinion at least, Ford have not managed to improve on since. I still say if Ford made something like it again, with the choice of AWD or RWD, it would sell like hotcakes, I know I'd sell my soul to have one if I had the chance!

I just hope if they ever reincarnate the Cosworth RS that it is a mean bastard of a car. None of this nicey stuff, I wanna be eating popliticians and Harold Scabby for breakfast in it!!!!!

The current Clio's only misfortune, well 2 main misfortunes are the pitiful lack of space and the slightly uninspiring looks. Willing to forgive those though, but I'd prsonally buy the Pug 206 GTi 180 if forced between the two, just love the rorty looks. I'd be a fool not to pay the Clio for being an absolute hammer though!! I'd just sometimes prefer the hotter girl with slightly less brains if given the choice... but still plenty of brains to be stimulating! Same with cars.

Oh but from what magazines say....

Lets just say, if i sell my car for the price i like, i may even have a used 182 Cup

And... I like the fact it is uninspiring in the looks. Well, it pretty much has same visual features as my current car (16 inch, no bodykit, subtle wing)... yet the dual rear exhausts (provided i get a 182... the 172 also had 15s, not 16s). Subtle... which is great for surprising those at the lights in their Auto Xr6s, or even Manual NEW Golf GTIs! : when they see me in my halfthepriceofaGTI blast past at the lights!

Oh, i cannot wait. Fiesta goes into Trading Post on thursday - lets hope it sells!

I know the Clio isnt your ultimate sports car - but for bang for buck, it certainly is hard to beat! (Especially at the prices I am hearing for normal Kms cars! $18,000 even....)

And Matt - that essay was very generalised! The Golf GTI 1 was a medium car. The 205 GTI was the real small hot hatch - and the RenaultSport Clio is in a sense the re-incarnation. Apparently the 206gti180 doesnt handle just as well....

the mkI golf gti was a medium car? christ teki, what world do you come from? have you seen one of these in the flesh? its no bigger than my middle finger!

and i think sometimes, too many people put too much emphasis "on what magazines say". you'd be a fool to believe everything you read. i havent driven one myself, but from all accounts of "magazines", the car is a fantastic drive.

magazines also say that the xr8 is too nose heavy and that the engine lacks any willingness to rev. in saying this, youd have to be either a race driver or a motoring journo to pick it. but once you get inside one, and you can see that huge bulge sitting on top of the bonnet, you can hear that deep menacing growl of the BOSS 260 donk, there is just soooo much soul in that car.

so what if your halfthepriceofaGTI clio goes from 0-100 a bee's pecker faster than a new golf gti? im sure theyd be basking in the knowledge that they can at least fit more than 2 people and a handbag in their car, knowing that their car has a far superior build quality, and that, well, frankly, its just another p-plater with too much testosterone ;)

Sorry Teki, couldn't resist!!!!! You know I'd kill for a Clio, just stop being so Clio Clio Clio!!! It's one of many brilliant cars, one of the best for value, but has its own flaws that make it unsuitable for absolutely everyone and convenient to a select (smart) few who own one.

Hey - I do have to take people in the back. In saying that really only happens on a Saturday night for about 30mins. So, i'll just consider the car as a two seater with the option of 3 children aka small people

No - By small people i ment children. Basically a 2 seater car with ability to squeeze kids in the back ( i have young cousins)
