HI Guys and Girls
I know its digressing off subject a bit Ive had the pleasure of driving both f6 and gtp for extended periods of time and I have had fast 2wd and 4wd turbos cars all my driving life IMHO Im afraid despite Motors PCOTY I THINK THEY GOT IT WRONG!!!! I think the Boss290 and GT-P :1syellow1 is still the money F6 Standard - $62ish - 18 inch wheels 4 pot front single rear normal seats a smooth motor but it does bite LOL It doesnt brake as well with 4 pots and on 18's it is not a real happy camper I dont feel the steering is "that" much lighter unless its being pushed hard The Auto is brilliant for what it is (an automatic) but its still not a manual ( despite what others say) GT-P - 70ish 19 6 pots 4 pot rears nice seats but that engine at full song : The chassis loves the 19's and sets up well in corners considering the extra weight. Power is more linear and manageable its like riding a quarterhorse instead of the wild arabian thoroughbreed. the six speed suits it much better I know you can option the F6, I thought to do this with 19's and 6 pots but your looking on the other side of 75000 It just becomes outlandish Sure the F6 is a weapon it leaves the 290 kissing its exhaust pipe - no doubt - but no one looks sideways at it : (although its seems that way to the driver until you realise that its you that is sideways :hihi: ) The Gt-P is worshipped by others on the road. The nods waves and thumbs up are testimonial to that :king: Is it worthy of this acclaim or is it a Myth - Maybe things will change but I dont think so IMO The I6 has the giddy up but no show The 290 has the noise and the GT-P the visual presence So mark one up for the Show pony V8 expecially the GT-P out: PS excuse the horse references Last edited by jeffchalker; 04-05-2006 at 12:38 AM. |

Good to see this thread is still going Jeez, I started it back in September 05. Oh, and good to see that Turbo's are still winning ;)
But it's great to see such a close poll over such a long period of time! |

We are blessed by a good variety of cars. It's amazing a Barra 180KW is more powerful that a V8 of a few years ago. Add a 6 speed auto, tweak the exhaust and it has plenty of performance.

Well guy, choosing which one is a nightmare. So much so that I have not voted. Still we should be in arms and be very glad that we have 2 exciting engines in the one model. I can think of no car today or for that matter in the past (apart from the Soarer/SC400) that has the choice of old school rich sounding v8 or the modern sophisticated turbo.

I noticed you asked if a Turbo 6 (XR6T, Typhoon) is your type of engine or are you a V8 (XR8, GT) man. Well I am a V8 girl. Gotta love that V8 sound.
Although I would love to have a ride in a XR6T to see what they are like. I have raced one a while ago and it was even although I had the air conditioning on and I wasn't paying much attention to the lights.

It's amazing after this many votes it's still so close. It's great to see if you're a Ford nut!!
I must admit, I'm always rather happy to see the Turbo option sneaking every so slightly in front ;) :P (by a whopping 0.19% at the moment to be exact) |

If we were talking old school stuff, nothing beats the old mighty cleavland. I was driving a mates XY one saturday night along The Great Western Hwy and we stopped near a XF, thought it was a v8, it sounded tough, took off and you could hear the waste gates open, it was a highly modified turbo, so back to first and i nailed the old gt and totally slaughtered the XF turbo and I mean left it for death. He tried again at the next set of lights, I nailed it, smoked it in 1st, 2nd and 3rd well over 3 cars length. The XY was off the clock at 140mph.
But since we are talking modern cars, before I brought my car i took a XR8 Auto, XR6 Auto and XR6T Manual for a test drive and honestly the Turbo was the best, it was the quickest by far, I ended up buying it. I am yet to do some motor mods to her, buy knowing I can get 300 - 400rwkw out of her I will be there soon. If its V8 noise, you need to hear a real V8, come and listen to my XA 377 with Gear Drive thats what a real v8 sounds like not like the hiss these modern V8's make. My turbo exhaust is louder than your V8's, I was next to one on the way home tonight couldnt hear his over mine and both were stock.

After 539 votes, its 259 each, and a couple monkey votes.
Great thread. I voted Turbo 6. I have owned both, BA GT-P 4spd auto, and now BF M6 Typhoon. Six kills it as a stock car, and uses considerable less fuel in the process. I loved my GT-P and the raw of the BOSS, 275rwkw that cost me around $6000 additional to do so, if I spent that on my F6, 330rwkw plus. BTW, you clowns racing on the street, keep it to controled conditions, or just kill yourselves, not others.

I wonder what the sales figures reflect since the BA was launched, lets say XR8 vs XR6T. I see more XR8s on the road.

Plus it'll be interesting now with the XR8 being a stones throw away from the Typhoon in terms of $, but then again, if your in that market, you're either a V8 man or a Turbo6 man... If anyone has a sales breakdown (which I doubt) it'd be cool if you could post it |

My username says it all. When I'm older and slower I'll buy a V8.
Edit: Just kidding, guys. I love V8s.
