Default Rick Bates Skid Pan Day - 21 June 08

As mentioned at the last couple of club meetings, a Skid Pan Day has been organised for the 21st June. Initial indictations was that we would fill the 18 spots available but the financial committment has been poor. Here is your chance to grab a spot.

The day will include:

- Theory on car control - the how's and why's;
- Causes of skidding and it happens;
- How to get out of a situation; and
- Have some fun using throttle control to control skids (not do doughnuts).

An overview of the course can be found at http://www.batesadvanceddriving.com/...arcontrol.html

There'll be two sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. For the morning session, you will need to be at the Sutton Road complex no later than 7:45am. Those attending the afternoon session will need to be at the complex by 12:15pm.

Cost is $132.00 per person GST Inc. The registration form can be found at http://www.batesadvanceddriving.com/...entFormweb.doc. Final numbers are required by Monday 9 June at 6pm. Get your names in now, and arrange to have you registration form and money to Jim by the deadline. Don't hesitate to PM Marty (Pursuit250) or the committee (info@fpvxrclubact.com) for more information.

^^^^^^^^^^^

There are 10 spots available for the morning session so I've moved you into that session.

If there are more interested, then post up here. There are a number of people who were flexible against which session they went on so we will start splitting the numbers.

Only one session Glenn. Didn't get enough to run the second session.

Yes Walshy spectators are welcome...

Tomorrow is the day...

For the morning session, you will need to be at the Sutton Road complex no later than 7:45am. Those attending the afternoon session will need to be at the complex by 12:15pm.

Rick advises the program will include:

Theory on car control - the how's and why's;
Causes of skidding and it happens;
How to get out of a situation; and
Have some fun using throttle control to control skids (not do doughnuts).

Rick also advises this will also include traction control on and off for those whose cars have it.

I will see all those in secession 1 between 7.30 & 7.45 in the morning

Cheers

Big Glenn

What a great day......

Everybody had heaps of fun.. I hope as I didn't see anybody without a smile ear to ear...

Thanks to Rick & John for all their instructions on car control... it was a great help for some.. But for others ... well no amount of instruction can help me/them...

Thanks to Jim for organizing the day....

The only draw back was the condition the cars ended up in... my ute has never been so dirty in its life...

Heaps of pictures were taken on the day as well as video of each car I'm sure that these will come when the shutter bugs have done their stuff.

Thanks everybody for a great day

Big Glenn

And neither has my car.
Anthony had the rear window down a bit to do some filming and road dirt has gone into the car and onto the rear window. Took me about an hour to clean the car this morning.

Having enticed my daughter and son to undertake the Defensive Driving Course at this venue, which included a session on the skid pan (although the EF didn't need a skid for the rear end to step out), I can now understand why they enjoyed it so much. Thanks to everyone for a great day especially Walshy, Marty and others who unselfishly captured the events for us all to reminisce. Thanks Jim for getting us there as I am sure another visit to the Pan is on the cards.

Thanks for the great day guys. Enjoyed every minute of it all (the giggles throughout the video are testiment to that). Highlight of the day, hub caps flying across the track. What did you tell Kerry Dave?

I'll get some footage of everyone on YouTube real soon.

So when's the next one? (I missed out unfortunately)

I'm sure we'll have no problems getting numbers together again.

Thanks for that Marty. I had to wash the car ($7.00), buy a new set of imitation dress rims ($18.95 set of 4) and two new Michelin tyres for $266.00. So the day cost over $400.00 but was worth every cent. And of course Kerry is happy, for the time being anyway!
