I spent four years driving 5 different VE commodores for a total of more than 200,000 km. 4x SSV 1x Calais V.

If I never drive another one I'm fine. I won't be rushing out to buy one either. And let's face it. At the end of 2016 Comodore is gone as well. So if I'm in a position to buy a car in that time frame I can still get a Falcon.

After that who knows. But they, Ford, have given up their home ground advantage. Whereas with Falcon if all things were equal a Falcon/ Teritory was my choice To keep my business the need to have an advantage.

Id buy a Toyota before a holden
Actually id never ever own a holden again
Not being Mr negative there, but grew up,around and worked on holdens when younger
Holden owners have a lets say different mindset,or perhaps ,marbles in the bag not correct sorta thing
I think the whole "Buy Australian" thing is just about dead in the water now,its too late to be 'Im an aussie,i buy aussie made, manufactured gear"

When its time to trade the new terry I will certainly look toward another Aus. built product. If commodore is still around then it will be sportswagon all the way for me .

After my last experience with a V8 Calais I have a natural reluctance to purchase another Holden. I'm pretty sure they're also gone in 2016/7.

Maybe time to consider a BMW 5 series ?

In the same boat here.

I'd like to see the Commodore and Borion stick around however just for the sake of the manufacturing industry in Australia. I would buy a Commodore in the future, they (VE) aren't bad cars by any means (well the VE SS/V wasn't anyway).

I find comments like this frustrating, as your experience was with a VX, which is completely and totally irrelevant to the current model. Going by this logic, I suppose noboby should have bought an FG because the EA was a lemon?
Holden have also committed to local manufacture till at least 2022.

If I'm in the boat to buy a new car by the end of '16, I won't be trading, just buying. But I know it in my heart that I won't be. I'll just watch all the lucky Falcon FH buyers drive them off the showroom floor from my desk, begging a salesman to let me drive one before they are done.

I think a Presara would be the one to get. Although the Calais price drop makes it appealing too.

Most comfortable seats would have to go to the G6E, very nice.

Maybe it's "cool" to bash the Aussie stuff these days but it is unwarranted.
So you don't even mention Mondeo which is interesting .....are Ford advertising IT? I zap the ads so wouldn't know. For it to take off does it need to be relaunched with the name Fusion to generate some attention, because I don't think there are many who know of its existence?

I woudn't completly rule out looking at the VF, (I especially like all the tech in the new HSV GTS), but the way Holden treated me with the VX left a lasting impression, more so than the numerous problem with the car itself. "Once bitten, twice shy"

The way I see things is that a car is still 'newish' until about four years old, which means I can drive a Falcon until 2020/2021.

By then who knows what will be available or if we will even have any manufacturing here. If we do, I will buy Aussie, but not Holden, I just don't want to be a Holden driver/owner, Aussie made or not.

I'd buy a Mustang.

I don't really want to drop my IQ 50 points and grow a mullet. And i'd rather not be associated with Holden drivers, most of them i've met have been absolute losers. The stigma of Commodore drivers usually turns out to be true when you talk to them, not all of them but a large percentage. I don't want to be one of them.

Plus I still have all my teeth.

Friends, due to the nature of the rivalry between the two marques over the years I probably need not point out (but will anyway) that the exact same types of things are said by Holden fans. I personally will continue to favour Falcons.

No, won't go back there! Been with Ford to long now to jump ship, so I guess I'll just have to wait & see what Ford brings us I guess! Will definately get another Falcon or Territory before the time is up for sure to add my collection!

This may be true if you were talking about VN-VS Commodores, but I believe this thread is referring to new Commodores, and I can hardly see the type of people you describe lining up to buy new VF's.

He was spending 70 bucks a week on fuel and that lasts almost 3 weeks
Being in the trade FG's are so reliable it's not funny VE's are terrible and it's got mostly imported bits in it Holden keeps that info very quiet
Camry has lots of Aussie bits in it so I reckon it's an Aussie built Toyota for me
Yeah we have a Camry Hybrid, very happy with it. Its not like a Falcon though (one of the best driving family cars for the money) - but I already have a ute and preferred not to have two identical cars and the Camry just put up too good of a value argument to consider the other locals. We get around 5.8 litres per 100km and it handles well. Also very refined, roomy and well equipped. What lets it down is the tyres lack a little grip and I reckon the rear dampers are a touch too firm.

But for a large roomy Australian made family car which is dirt cheap to run and has a bit of oomph I highly recommend it.

Falcon or Commodore? - moot question really as the Commodore isn't going to be on sale, in its current large car config anyway, much longer.

Honestly I would never consider a commodore, I used to work in a Holden dealer around the time the ve came out and left in 08 and I have never seen 1 come in for a service they didn't need some sort of warranty work. The cruise is the same I'd feel more comfortable to drive my el with 310,000kms around Australia then either of them.
