Default Original Escort Capri Steering wheel

Hi all,

I am trying to figure out what the going rate is for a factory MK1 escort or capri steering wheel in pretty good condition (this one escort badge in the centre though). Used to have a MK1 with a 13B turbo in it of all things... I have had it in the shed for ages and was wondering whether to sell it or keep it but can't find one for sale anywhere to get an idea. If they aren't worth much I'll just keep it.

the ones with a rubber rim, should actually have leather wrapped over it and stitched.
it was a factory option,
does it have 1" or so of the silver spokes showing too, just before the outer edge of the rim?
i had a 1970 Capri one that i sold last year.

This page of the 1971 Capri sales brochure shows the optional sports wheel. They weren't necessarily a GT item, as you could order one for your standard 1600 Deluxe Capri, and they were optional on the GT's also (possibly also optional on Twin Cam and RS MK1 escorts).

By what you describe, this may be what you have. Price will depend on condition, but as yours needs new leather on the rim it may only sell for $150-200, maybe more if the centre pad has no marks or cracks in the rubber. Will also depend on the condition of the centre badge/disc, and if it still has the rear plastic cover.

A few pics would help with a closer value and assessment of condition.

Cheers
Jamie

Yep like that one,
I'll get some photos in a couple of days, the centre section is in good nick, the badge is a little crazed (42 years old!) but there are some small marks/dots around the rubber outer rim, not sure if they are meant to be there or not?

The last one I sold for $100 to a mate which cost another $200 to get retrimmed. If you can get it re-trimmed cheaply (but done well) I've seen them fetch over $700 but this was at the height of the market a few years ago.

Had one on a mk1 van - if I recall correctly they have rather ordinary looking bit of welding hidden behind the crash pad?
