Default Cobra build no's

I was lucky enough to meet the owner of Cobra no 049 today who has owned it for around 25years and was just wondering where to find the build specs for each car. I am told it is a 351 manual with air, steer and fast glass.
It has had a respray due the previous owner having a mural or something painted on the bonnet and roof (i think).
Mechanically i'm told it is original and unsure of the km travelled. The owner is a private person who is aware of it's value but is not a car fanatic as such.
I will be printing him off a flyer for Echuca and try and talk him into going.
I will try and get photo's with his permission.

Where did you find this info from?
I searched and found that 200 were built with the 351, but what i am wanting to know is were they built in a specific order, ie: the first 30 were the Bathurst specials, and as no049 had all the options and was 1 of 40. Were no's 31-71 all the same or were they built to order or was there a mix of engine combinations and options during the build run?

Here you go Mark
you will find all the info on our web site http://www.falconcobracarclubofaus.com/, If you have the time go to some of our links like http://cobra.jfpresentations.com/

Engine & transmission breakdown
4.9 manual 100
4.9 auto/power steering/air-conditioning 60
4.9 auto/power steering/air-conditioning/power windows 40
5.8 manual -Option 97 30
5.8 manual/air-conditioning/power steering 10
5.8 manual/air-conditioning/power steering/ power windows 40
5.8 auto/air-conditioning/power steering/power windows 120

Only 400 cars were built, 200 fitted with the 351 and the other 200 were 302 powered. Car numbers below 201 were 351s and the other 200 were 302s. [There are only two exceptions known, 001 has a 302 and 351 has a 351.]
Paint Code=Z605
Trim Code=B
Engine Code=T for 351, P for 302
All Falcon Cobras were based on the Falcon "GS Rally Pack" and fitted with twin exhaust, tinted rear window, clock, tinted band laminated windscreen, special seat trim, front and rear spoilers, "Bathurst Globe" alloy wheels [15 x 7 inch] and the obvious paint and decal set.

Cheers
Tony

ps

Thank's again for Monday

I think the first 30 were the famous bathrust 351 Cobras from memory

Either way - a great car, reminds me of my youth were some people in my area had two of them in the one driveway........

As stated above, they were built in numbered batches, 001 was a promo car 302 auto with all the fruit from memory ( correct me if I am wrong) and 002 to 031 were the Bathurst specials. Then they went 351 4 speed but what optiond from there I would assume it would be the air and steer 10 cars and then the air, steer and fast glass cars which would take you up to Cobra 081? Would that be correct?

all cars with the same options were consecutive
i believe the car 49's options would make it in the numbers 32-71. i believe the larger quantity of 351's were number 82-200 and possibly 351. i had thought there was a breakdown on the cobra site but could not find it earlier. hopefully i will find it in the near future

this is some info i have just found - it seems about right
001 Promo car 302 auto
002-031 Bathurst (Option 97)
032-041 351 manual A/C P/S
042-080 351 manual A/C P/s P/W
081-200 351 auto A/C P/S P/W
201-300 302 manual
301-360 302 auto A/C P/S
361-400 302 auto A/C P/S P/W

it would seem looking at these that #351 was a 351 manual A/C/ P/s P/W car

My mate owns 351 and it is manual, no A/C or P/S or P/W. Best number I think.

i am not disputing what you say, but from any records i have seen the only manuals with no comforts were the 302's (excluding the top 30). maybe they have been removed, but you would think that is unlikely

maybe someone from the cobra club knows more about it

Aha!!! Yes, Cobra #351 is a factory 351. Didn't realise it had no luxo options though. This one's a one-off by the looks of it.

Mark, hopefully the owner of #49 makes the trip to Echuca. Perhaps he'd like to come along to a Coupe Club run sometime?

Cheers.

that is an interesting fact
from day one i have only known the breakdowns to be as
4.9 manual 100
4.9 auto/power steering/air-conditioning 60
4.9 auto/power steering/air-conditioning/power windows 40
5.8 manual -Option 97 30
5.8 manual/air-conditioning/power steering 10
5.8 manual/air-conditioning/power steering/ power windows 40
5.8 auto/air-conditioning/power steering/power windows 120

i have always thought they were numbered like this

cobra no. 1
4.9 auto/power steering/air-conditioning (60)
cobra no. 2-31
5.8 manual – option 97 (30)
cobra no. 32-41
5.8 manual/air-conditioning/power steering (10)
cobra no. 42-80
5.8 manual/air-conditioning/power steering/ power windows (40)
cobra no. 81-200
5.8 auto/air-conditioning/power steering/power windows (120)
cobra no. 201-300
4.9 manual (100)
cobra no. 301-350
4.9 auto/power steering/air-conditioning (60)
cobra no. 351
5.8 manual/air-conditioning/power steering/ power windows (40)
cobra no. 352-360
4.9 auto/power steering/air-conditioning (60)
cobra no. 361-400
4.9 auto/power steering/air-conditioning/power windows (40)

you learn something new everyday
then again, it doesn't matter what it has, i want it . . . . and the other 399

it would have been a manual with air, power steering and electric windows i assume
there were 40 cars produced in this option but are numbered 42-80 which equals 39 cars
351 must be the 40th

Thanks for that Snake Bite. That puts us out with our theory if you are correct!
Did it not come with those options, or did someone for some reason remove it all?
Good call on best number, Apart from a Bathurst Cobra, It would have to be with no.001 as best to own!

Yeah, I tried working it out and it got too hard! I tried working the cut off points out off the falcon cobra club registry and that did not help either. Got me stuffed.

Cobra 360 to 400 details are correct. Thats what my big 302 had. Lovely powersteering, Super quick and smooth power windows and Ice Cold Airconditioning which was always great for one day of the year that we called summer in Ballarat...............
