i have done a couple on ED, EF AND ELs
i used a 1mm cutting disc in my angle grinde.
carefully cut through the nut until you are almost through
cutting parallel to the pipe
be very carefull not to cut the piping that the nut fits onto.
then i put the nut onto something solid and tap a stubby flat-bladed screwdriver in the cut slot with a hammer
the nut splits open a little, and the nut will slide off the end of the pipe
give the pipe a quick wipe over and tap the new nut on
there is a circlip inside the nut which grabs the pipe and holds it on firm.

i have heard of someone buying the replacement nut from fords and prying the o'ring out and then slipping it into their old fitting
if that works you could just source a 10c o'ring and use that
i have never tried that way though.

there is probably other ways of doing it too

dont forget to buy some power steering fluid from fords about $14, or equivalent synthetic stuff

ba replacement nut

I bought the nut today and I am going to attempt it one day soon.
Does the hose have to come of the other end and pull out of the vehicle as it look's like a ***** if it does, it goes down under the a/c down the front then across the other side of the engine to the firewall.

Do you have to use the Ford fluid or what about Penrite or something else, and does the system need to be bleed afterwards..
I was going to suck out the fluid in the res with a syringe then undo the nut and go from there.

i did them all with them in the car still, they were all 6cyls though.

first i removed the hose and let the pump drain the fluid into a 2 litre icecream container.
i have used the penrite synthetic fluid in my own EL, still there 3 years later without probs.
when i finished and put it all back together i just refilled the pump and started it and let it bleed itself.
turned it off and left it.
next morn i checked the level, it took under 100mls more.

Thank's mate, I will attempt it and see, hopefully I can cut it while it's still in the engine bay without having to take the hole line out.

Galaxy, might be a good chance to take some pics when you do it? Seems like this is a fairly common procedure that is in need of documenting.

Good luck with it.

a dremel could be good to use too, with the thin cutting disc
stick a rag into the end of the pipe to stop filings etc going in.

Make sure you have the right nut! I have an xr8 and was incorrectly supplyed a 6cyl union (nut) i disnt know there was a difference and used it, it will fit but it will not seal 100%
i'll upload a pic of the v8 union (nut) its still waiting to be fitted lol

The nut I have got is the same as the one my67XR has posted, that nut that you have XARATE is not like the one on mine, so I don't know what it is of ?.

If I end up doing it I will take some pic's as it does look like we need a step by step, but I also have to get a leak looked at underneath and I am going to get someone to do that so I won't be doing this nut and filling up the res untill that is sorted otherwise it will be a waste of fluid.

There is a how-to here somewhere. I used it when I did mine (I6) but I haven't time to search right now.

Ok I see what is going on now, the BA is different in the thread like my67xr has mentioned, and the AU has two nuts, one is like what XARATE has posted and the other is similar to the BA one but different, there is a pic of it in one of those links, it has two different thread's on the body.
So Ford has obviously given me a BA one . idiot's.

Have a look at the 1st pic in this thread,
http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11259590
That is what I have for the AU, well it's one part of the nut, the other part that it screw's into is what XRATE has posted,
Where as the pic that my67xr has posted is of a BA one, look at the thread difference on the shaft body.
Thank's guy's for pointing it all out.
