Manual Gear lever Options AU2 XR8

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone has changed the manual gear lever on their XR and had positive results?

I've read that changing from the standard XR gear lever to the TE50 lever results in a nicer shift, as the lever has an S bend that moves it back and to the right (closer to the driver)

Has anyone installed this type of lever; is it still available; and if it isn't are there any other levers out there I can buy?

I just cut mine down. I'm sure there are better ways to do it out there, but mated to the billet short shifter, I haven't had any complaints.

B&M rip shifter @ $400 are not a bad option if your'e after a quwick shift

Im not after a short shifter per se, Id just like it if the lever was a little closer to me. I have the seat pretty close to the steering wheel, but the shifter still feels 'not quite right' after seeing pics of the TE50 lever I reckon itd be spot on what for what Im after.

I've got a TE50 gear lever on my AU1 XR8. It is shorter and does move the lever closer to the driver. 1st is about where netural is on the standard lever I found it much better than standard as I don't have to reach as far to change gears.
I've had mine for a while and I think it cost about $120 from Ford.
Ser1 XR8 & XR6 (vct) have short shifters standard.The cover on the shifter are a gold colour where the standard ones are just bare metal colour.
Don't know if the Ser2/3 have short shifters standard or not.

I spoke to Mal Wood at a Trade Stand he had at a show. He told me about the short shifters in the Ser1's. Rang his shop and they gave the ford part No for the TE lever. He knew more than the parts guy did as they told the part did not exist but after some more searching they eventually found it.
That was a few years ago but you might be lucky!!!

thats what i got, cant miss a gear, love it but when your just cruising around it kinda sucks casue all the shifts are stiff when you smashing the stick lol,

(not just my gear box, a mate has a vs clubby with one does the same thing)

BPT have a short gear lever. I've got it in my car. Has a nice feel to it!

That BPT shifter pretty much looks like the TE50 one below, can you confirm that the BPT is pretty much like the one in the pics below LG? Looks good for $80ish! Especially as it seems the ford one would be at least $120.

yeah, i also have the T series lever, it definitely brings the shifter closer to the driver, no more reaching for first gear, i think it is money well spent personally.

I remember the BPT lever as having some angle on it. Whether it is as much as the TE50, I'm not sure. It would have to be very similar though. It makes shifting very nice. Just the shortness factor makes it worthwhile.

You need them to look for the trimec shifter, it will take some looking, but ford still had heaps in the warhouse a year ago when I got mine. That and a billit shifter is a major improvement.

Ring Mal Wood, they gave me the Ford part No for the T series lever.
I think you would find that all T's use the same lever.

I put a bend in one of mine a few years ago.
You can see quite clearly on those photos that it would only take a few minutes to bend it where you wanted it.

That would be the go, I do like the current height its just a little far to reach for first gear.

By heating up and bending do you think it would weaken too much ?
It does get a fair hammering at the drags.
