I would have thought it includes the filter. The only change is the XR8 intake and the pipe from the lid to the first elbow. Everything else is stock I6 AU.

Righteo, well I got the panel filter as you know, and was thinking of changing some time. What if you were to get the 3" Intake or Race Series Intake they call it. Do they supply a bracket to still fit the pod on, because you don't need that first piece to the elbow? I'll have to start saving again, and get done there and check it out.

The pod comes with its own mounting bracket as my car already had the 3" intake to the first elbow when they did mine.

The JMM kit comes with a metal pipe to connect to the elbow, pod filter adapter, Tickford Snorkel and pod filter. I know, I just installed mine.

I've taken it off because I am selling the car, and a different filter adds little to no value to the car. It's an AU1 XR8.

There are a few places that make adapters for the conical fliter so that you can also fit the standard snorkel. Try AWC - I'm reasonably sure they make them. So for around $60, you'd get the snorkel on, and it would get lots of cold air in from the front of the car, as well as the bit behind the headlight.

Had a look at Adam's snorkle setup on his conical air box and got very excited. After a few quick emails it seems this was a one off custom job. Definitely what I am after, I just have to find someone to do it. I'll track something down. Thanks for the information.

Have I stolen someones thread here? Leaving now :

Bugger! I knew he had done it, but didn't know (or had forgotten) it was a custom job. Sorry to get you all excited!

And I think it was Cubeys thread - he won't mind.

Just remembered - I have a spare half of a bottom half of the airbox (1/4 air box?) - pretty sure it's the bit that has the connector for the snorkel. Perhaps you could adapt that to fit the air cone on your ute? You can have it if you want it.

Sorry Cubey, although I think you have already installed the solution to your problems. You are about 5 steps ahead of me.

Maybe Im 5 steps ahead, but Im still about 100kws behind ;) Though one day my father-in-law may part with his 250..

I rekon I might go the full pipe next like stock standard has, if nothing else it looks good.

Theres been a lot of debating about it, but I think you safely assume that no, they do not let more dirt in...

i dont let my air filter bring dirt into the engine.

I let my fuel do that instead.

Stockstandard
I really like your air induction pipe from your air box to your throttle body. I think it looks very effective. I like the longer straight section just before the throttle body very much and the even curve contour before it. Where do I get one just like it for my AU 2 ?

I want to experiment with a hyclone just before the throttle body and the standard pipe is at the wrong angle for this. Anyone know where I could get one as in pic on page 3 ???

SO....
can i ask......

WHAT IS THE BEST AIR INTAKE MOD TO DO?
how does the pod filter work, does it just sit inside the standard air filter box?

if so.... how come ADAM from AWC has a wicked looking setup without the big black air box?
I am getting my exhaust done next week, what is the best combination?

Pod typically does just go inside the airbox. If you take your airbox setup out completely, expect issues with Constable Plod if he sees it.
Adam's setup is a T3/GT Conical Air Intake, basically it is still an airbox, just a different shape and size (obviously) and it draws its air in in a different way to the standard AU setup. It's not really suitable unless you have XR lights IIRC?

JCXR8 and Casper
The mod from the air box to the first bend in the pipe that goes to the throttle body to get rid of the narrow 55mm restriction (as on previous page 1) looks like a good mod and I have pipe welded up made to fit already.
Just wondering did you both also enlarge the hole from the air box to this pipe as it also looks very small compaired to the rest of 3 inch pipe. I was thinking of using a carbide bit and reeming the rubber gromet out to 3 inches so that it is the same. The down side is that It would then only seal on out side of new larger pipe not internally as well as it did on the old one???
What did you do?
Tim

I have just replaced my panel with a Redline panel filter ... I have kept the factory airbox and replaced the snrokel with the AUIII XR8 Tickford one. Next I will be getting the 3" mandrel bent intake pipe between the throttle body and the airbox (like stockstandards) ... have been told that this makes the largest improvement.

I have the EGAS motor ... I was also told that the throttle body inlet is restricted to 55mm in diameter ... where the butterfly in it is about 70mm ... getting the throttle body inlet machine out a bit will improve mid-to-topend power ... but reduce bottom end torque a fraction.

They will be my next mods to the car.

If that's that electric fan thing, save your money and spend it elsewhere. It doesn't work.

Jmm & Defilippo both do the piping to the airbox. Also go to the fordmods site and take a look at the inline six section.

They're doing them for $185+delivery (powdercoated). I'll have mine on its way once they've been made up....very soon.

pod vs panel filter.

I tested both with gtech.I love the panel filter but the results told me otherwise.!!!

Pod filter
0-100m run 1 wheelspin 7.98
0-100 run2 wheelspin 7.89
0-100 run3 no spin 7.48

panel
0-100 8.3 seconds.
0-100 8.2 seconds
This was pre chip

so useless...

do you know why there is such a difference in times there?

i mean... were both times... PRE CHIP?
and does that mean that the POD is less restrictive than a panel filter??

I dont know why there is such a difference? Yes these tests were done before I had the chip.

Honestly mate I think the panel filter has less restriction but the pod filter had created more velocity. So it struck the right notes and gave me the times.

I dont really like the pod filter..its a bit too good to be true so I wont be going back to the panel filter because of the performance increase.
