Unhappy BA grill on and AUII?

Ok someone has probably asked this before but....
Can a BA grill fit on an AU II/III?
I know about the AU egg crate design, I just like the BA grill.

I don't know if this is what you were thinking of but on my AUII I have used one of those BA XR lower grilles you can buy off ebay and a tickford wings badge and AUI/AUII Fairmont Chrome Grille surround to make a new distinctive grille. I also have the twin round sports lights off Ozeparts too.

uncle_ken the grille had to be cut to fit with tinsnips and and little clamp brackets made to hold in in place behind the grille surround not fitting in front like the std grille.

The lights were fine not quite as good as stock lights on low beam but about the same on high beam. The headlight adjusters and globe retainers are all much poorer quality than the stock headlight though which was disappointing.
I gues you see why they are half the price of genuine lights.

Looks wise I like them on my white and lighter coloured cars and the chrome in them goes well with the AUII fairmont grille and bonnet chrome.

I will get a better grille picture and post it up to help you to make up your own mind about looks. its easy enough to do and not that expensive compared to a new front bar and grille even from our friendly forum sponsors.

Does anyone know if the middle part of an AUII fairmont grille (i.e. no chrome, just the black part) will interchange with the AUII forte's middle part? (horizontal slats) I like the look of the fairmont grille but i don't like the chrome at all.

The couple of wreckers I have tried only sell the grille as a complete unit (ie black honeycomb bit, and the body coloured surround). But yes, I believe you can remove the centre piece and swap it over with a forte grille.

Ford may sell the middle/mesh bit separately, but it's not cheap:
AU2 8200 DP GRILLE - RADIATOR (PAINT TO SUIT) FAIRMONT/GHIA $145.00
ER 8200 CP GRILLE - RADIATOR, FAIRMONT $143.00

Strandard Forte Grille (AU2) is:
AU2 8200 A GRILLE - RADIATOR, FORTE $60.50

Glen the fairmont AUII Grille centre mesh fits the AUII all other models. I sold mine to a guy who did just that.

You can buy complete AUII Fairmont AUII Grille and the surround for $200 off Ozeparts.

Very nice work jonbays, very nice indeed. I still like to see the blue oval though! I wonder how both the blue oval and tickford wings would go? Probably unbalanced and not clean looking I guess.

Exactly my thoughts too. I should post up my alternative grille made with aluminium mesh and the Blue Ford oval. It looked a little like the NL fairlane by tickford grille.

Isn't the Tickford Grill/Mesh, the whole one piece and around $800 from Ford?

If your after some nice mesh, speak to Adam at AWC, http://www.awcinfo.com/ They have a nice bigger style mesh, like the T3 grill.

I think he is after the top grill, not the bottom one.

// edit, what i meant, was... is the top part and lower part of the grill on the T3? joined? or are they two seperate pieces?

The t3 grille won't fit and is stupidly priced. The T3 grille surround is a part of the front bar and has a bigger opening than the AUII grilles which are a separate piece to the bar.

It does look good though.

LG the BA lower grille is what i used but the non genuine ones off ebay.

Sorry blue driver I prefer the tickford wings grille on the black BA lower grille mesh to the ford badged silver aluminium grille I made.

I've been interested in replacing the grille in our Fairmont with a silver mesh similar to T1 for a long time now, ive just never been able to find the actual mesh.

If anyone knows where i can get some I'll look at swapping the honeycomb grille out and selling it for a good price.

The T1/T2 mesh is like chrome woven mesh isn't it? I think you can get it fron supercheap or autobarn.

Not sure if anyone near you does it, but New Gel in Canberra can get the woven chrome mesh - it's not cheap though. You'd be looking at around the $150 mark for the front of a falcon/fairmont. I priced this about 2 years ago, so it may be even more now.

BA front bar on an AU - short answer, No. Long answer, Yes - but would also require front panels, bonnet, headlights, radiator support panel, etc.
