Clean 2lt TF Cortinas are rare so leave it alone and go out and buy a ropey original 4.1lt to chop around. It will work out cheaper and a lot less hassle. i.e changing suspension, brakes, etc. Original, untouched cars are always going to be worth more than high powered, modders. So if its power you want start with the right base.

Get 2 cars. Keep the 2lt for Sunday cruises and get a "Big" Cortina to do you modding on. I've got 4 Classic Fords.
Sunday cruiser - Mk 1 GT Capri.
Hot street car - RS2000.
Daily driver/work vehicle - Mk 1 Escort Van. (project)
Major Project/track day/club events car - Mk 3 Capri.
Some guys will take one car and make it suit everything purpose. I'd much rather get a car that suits a particular purpose.
