Default So Long AU lovers

Well, as of Monday, I will no longer own an AU. As most know, the AU XR8 was sacrificed earlier this year to keep us afloat. With the missus back at work part time, things are better - in fact we bought an Exploder 2 weeks ago (back in a V8 - yeh baby!!). So this means I had to sell the EL, or the AU. Obviously, the more money we got for either car, the less our loan would be for the Exploder, so we started by advertising the AU wagon, with a view to not accepting anything less than $8k for it. If we couldn't get 8k, we figured it would be better to keep it and sell the EL for 4 or 5k instead.

Anyway, long story short, we advertised the wagon, and in the first week got an offer of $10k off the forums - I suggested a slightly higher price, and never heard back. Bird in the bush and all that, I was kicking myself. But it was not as bad as I thought, as 2 days later, my brother-in-law & sister said they were interested at around the same price ($10k), but while they were thinking about it and sorting it money, I got another offer for nearly $11k.

So the wagon goes to its new owner on Monday, and if he decides to baulk over the weekend, it goes to my sister and b-in-law. Either way, we are pretty happy that we got a good, fair price for the wagon. While it may be a Forte, it has more useful extras than a Fairmont - things like DVD player and roof mounted screen, HID lights, slotted rotors all round, sports system, 18" mags etc. We have always looked after the car, and the new owner is a bit of a car enthusiast (not solely Ford, mind you), so obviously recognises the great value our wagon represents. Plus with the XR front, it is a one of a kind in Canberra, and 1 of under 20 in Oz, as far as I know.

So...without meaning to bore you all to tears, it is time to say good bye to AU Falcons for the moment. Perhaps it is actually "Until we meet again" - I already have my eye on a dual fuel Forte for around $56k that I am interested in - just got to pull my finger out and sell the EL!

I will still be around the forums of course (a little bit), as I still love my AUs - I just won't have one to work on any more, until ZHodak comes over and brings has AU2 Fairmont, of course.

So long, and see you around! It's been fun, I've made some friends off the forum (and probably some unknown enemies too : ). I have learned heaps, and hope that I have also passed some of that learning back to everyone who visits AFF, and especially the AU Falcon forum.

JC

You better hang round, reading through the forums you seem to be one of the most knowledgeable people on them!

Good luck and sorry to see your wagon go. Maybe you could get the new owners to sign up here.

Thanks all. I'll still be around, just not as active on AU Falcon. So those who want my opinion/help/advice will now need to ask for it (by PM etc). Those that don't, well, you may just get it anyway!

And b2tf - it should have been $5-6k!

Hey John if you get sad and want a drive in an AU for some therapy you know I'm not far away - there's a couple of quick taxis here to choose from.

I'm sure you won't be a stranger to AUFalcon.com.au for long.

Mods so far are:
Pod filter and custom shroud
Slotted front rotors
Headrest monitors for the DVD player
6" US audio splits for the front
5x7 eclipse speakers in the rear
Reversing camera
HID Kit for low and high beam
Driving lights re-wired and re-aimed to be used as fog lights.

That's it so far. Future plans include:
A different set of 17" Rims (must be SUV/4WD rated though). I'm not a fan of factory rims.
3" exhaust at some stage
Kenne Bell Supercharger (perhaps more a dream than a planned mod)

Can't think of anything else at the moment.

Here's a link to my Explorer thread in the showroom:

Congrats on the sale JC, sounds like you did very well. And congrats of course on the latest purchase, just had a read through your thread and it looks great! Can't believe you've already started modding!

You've been a wealth of knowledge around here, but I'm sure we'll see you around.
