Red face Air Intake Openings (SS Inductions, Tickford etc)

Hi Guys

After a bit of opinion here... there are heaps of ways to improve air intake (As shown on AUfalcon.com) without spending $300 or so on SS inductions rip off intake system. (where you still have a performance filter on top of that to pay for)

Most people recommend the Tickford Intakes but these as you know are no longer available from Ford for $25 and are going on ebay for crazy prices (theres one 2nd hand one that doesn't look too good a nik up to $50 now with heaps of days left)

Anyway came across an el cheapo one for around $40 "buy it now" and it looks very similar size openings to the Tickford one

Pics below for comparison...

What do you think?

Edit: By "el cheapo" I mean they are classing it as a Fuel saving product rather than performance intake... just makes it sound cheap

Im thinking one of them, along with an EF top lid for the airbox (tests show these are much better than AU ones) and either K&N Panel Filter or get parts and swap to a Pod Filter with "ram affect"...

Maybe even cut the hole in the back of the box and put the PVC in for an extra opening (as shown on AU falcon.com also)

That would be because it is the same, just minus the Tickford wings...

GlennAUII has an even bigger one... he calls it the Paris Hilton...

Hopefully he'll see this and put the pic up...

LoL ... the "Paris Hilton"

Yeah they are a tad bit different though... I doubt it would matter... Tickford one looks to have a longer back bit but I guess they would be no different?? Well If they are basically the same I may as well buy it! :evil_laug

Any suggestions from people who have decent air intake mods would be appreciated

I want the best but I don't want to spend HUGE bucks.

Then I can look into extractors, exhaust, and Crow Cam.
Air Intake seems cheapest thing to change for now and with all my interior mods being so expensive seems smart to do this now. (Momo Wheel, Gear Knob, Leather Gear boot etc etc etc)

Ahh XR6 Turbo, cheers HLC

Well they are actually about $48 + post on ebay.. mmmm.

Now what about filters... I'll get an EF top lid and either "Holley Powershot" Air Filter or K&N (both panel) Anyone know anything about the Holley which is suppost to be an equivelant??

Sorry about the fuss and questions but I get confused with so many brands and different shapes and looks and opinions... I just want a decent intake system!

Maybe even go with a POD filter??

Dont buy it then. If you want the cheapest and most effective mod to the existing airbox just cut the bottom front off it. It will take air from behind the headlight and cost you nothing but time. All these intake pipes are basically just a restriction anyhow.

for just a basic setup, the Xr6T snorkel, high flow panel filter, and EF top lid works fine.

you want good/great?

spend $600 and get a G&D system

Is this like on the AU Falcon mod page where you run the PVC?
Just my car isn't an XR (anymore) so I doubt too much air gets in behind the lights?

dont even bother with the PVC, just cut a big square hole in the front (below the filter line). The majority of air doesnt come from the headlights, it is sucked up from below them anyhow so it will work on any AU, XR or not.

Thats a bargain.
The way I look at it is most of the mods to the stock airbox are near pointless anyhow. If people are after doing some serious intake mods then the G&D is the way to go. All the rest is just different takes on the same base issue.

Foxtrot, buy the G&D airbox and you wont ever have to look at intake issues again.

Depends on how serious you are about performance. To me $600 on a body kit to add weight to an effectively stock car is pointless too.. but I'm not into that, I'm into performance. Each to their own.

According to my dyno sheet, the G&D CAI gave me an extra 4.6kw at the wheels. Not to mention the meanest induction noise this side of a V8 out:

Those tickford snorkels are still restrictive, even on a 4.0 six. If you slap a pod in the box, it shows it even more.

If you dont want to spend alot of money, take caspers advice, fit a secondary intake into the airbox.

They have stopped making the snorkels with the Tickford logo's on them, that's why they are different, you'll find if you put them right next to each other they are EXACTLY the same. Snorkels that now have the Tickford logo are just a marketing gimmick.

http://www.aunger.com.au/hidden/item...676079582.html. They are $195, and in real life, ie. under Glenns bonnet, it looked HUGE. Way bigger than all the others.

Your AU will breathe heaps better with that pod, just remember to clean it and oil it regularly. Fuel consumption should improve too. :
