Just straighten thing out here.
All depends how you want to "judge" your list eh .... like, for me performance is top priority, luxury is very secondary, so my list would start at TE50 No. 1 !!! LOL

PS - and if two otherwise identical cars were offered to me for nix I'd choose an SR over a Fairmont Ghia any day. But that's just me ...

Dont put it on gas if u want to tow a float coz it will lose power and b a slug off the mark , just what u dont want for towing

I've been looking for a new car as welll and just paid 10,600 for an 01 series TWO SR.... I was willing to pay this as its a 5 speed and they're hard to come by. 10,600 was what Redbooks average price at the most was for this model..

It was actually me offering sydney car auctions 9800 and they accepted, 400 on top for the auction groups pay and 400 for freight from Sydney to Brisbane.

Im happy

But yours sounds like a GREATT buy...

I like your thinking, however i, like you, may be biased

Tash, the SR sounds a reasonable buy, so if you like it, get it checked out , and get it, as you know the car and its history, less risk than a normal private sale

If it's tuned properly you won't be able to tell the difference.

There are two choices - if you go straight gas and no petrol at all it is easy tune and there will be very minimal difference in power.

If you choose to use dual fuel conversion you must use the Sprint Gas one which provides a separate computer to control ignition for when you switch over to gas. Again with this type of system there is virtually no difference in performance.

The only time you will get lack of performance with a dual fuel system is if the system does not include a separate controller for the LPG - like the older IMCO type systems which use a convertor. The Sprint Gas system is a positive pressure type system and is triggered from the car's injector system and does not use a convertor as such.

Thanks, whats the better option 1 and whats the cheaper option 2. Will i get the rebate of 2000 if i do something other than the standard? How much would it cost to get it converted to the sprint gas system?undefined

Its confusing with all these conflicting opinions, but still- its great to take it all in. I just sold my HQ Prem Wagon 1974 308 with all the trimmings. Couldnt afford to run it, or maintain it, and having had a child i had to leave the bogan days behind! I do prefer the FORDS. But that old car had heaps of grunt. When I moved, I towed a piano, lounge and hundreds of other things in the float. All I did was reshape the twin exhaust chrome extensions. Would have been at least 3 tonne!

Would a straight gas system be better? Would the Gov pay the $2000 toward it?

[I]thats looks great! there not as ugly as everyone keeps telling me. Does the gas tank put too much weight in the back?

Will it pull the car down, as the 1300kg i would be towing would already be putting heaps of weight on the rear......bit worried now.

I don't really tow with it, so I'm not the guy to answer that one, sorry!

Most people here on the forum, when lowering their car, go for lower springs on the rear than the front, to compensate for the ride height always being higher on Ford rears than the front. I lowered my car with standard XR springs, and the gas tank makes it nice and level! LOL!

I expect someone here will be able to answer your questions though!

Whichever way you go you will still get the full govt. subsidy.

IMO straight gas is the way to go simply for tuning reasons, BUT as I said before if you use a second microprocessor like Sprint Gas do there is absolutely no reason why you can't run dual fuel.

Also if you use straight gas you may be able to source a tank that will go underfloor in place of the OE fuel tank - this is something only your LPG installer can advise you on. This would save boot space because the usual position for the LPG tank is behind the rear seat - whereby you lose the functionality of the fold-down seats as well as that amount of boot space.

Sprint Gas have a website with a lot of info on it and I believe there is a crowd not far from you (Dandenong I think) who specialise in LPG conversions. Sorry I can't think of their name off hand but have heard of them over a few year period so they should be reputable.

As for the weight on your rear springs - if the hitch is set up at the correct height there should be no more than about 40-50kg on your towball. The weight of the tank you could find out from an installer. The gas in the tank is only slightly heavier than the weight of air so there is not much difference in weight between a full tank of LPG (including the tank) as against a full tank of petrol (including the tank). It's possible you may have to fit stiffer springs to the rear if you wish to run dual fuel but it is not a huge expense - not more than $400 supplied and fitted.
