Fuel prices in victoria should only rise ever 12 - 14 days, as set out by the fuel watch dog, I always forget which one it is but most petrol stations I see abide by this, problem is they are no all on the same schedule so you have some that jack up 2 days earlier or 2 days later.

At least in WA they their government provides them with a website of the current fuel prices state wide and are not subject to change until 24hours of the original price.

On the Gold Coast on Monday it was 134, I have been on hols this week up and around the Sunshine Coast and in the first part of the week it dropped down to 129 which is about the lowest we have seen it for ages. On Sat night watching the news I saw it had risen 20c overnight but we travellled back today and there hasent been any changes in either of those places we have been so I am confused about any increase cos AFAIK there hasnt been one.

The servo around the corner from me is currently 152.9 for ulp, and their price changes infrequently. Others in town are up and down like a yoyo.

Oddly the most continually expensive servo in town in Thornton has been the cheapest for that last fortnight with his fuel price being 145.9 L. Everyone else is over 152.9 L in the area.

Rockhampton is always around $153.9>$155.9 for ULP..98 is around $1.70l. No can explain why Rocky prices don't change.!!! Usual BS..no competiton, freight etc. (it comes from Gladstone, 100kms away !!)
I was in Brisbane on the weekend and I paid $1.49 for 98 and with the 8c off.,$141.9...very happy!!

Funny enough after almost two years 98 is 151.9 at its lowest.

I have never been able to work out why Cities have the cheap and expensive cycle thing.

Here in the Bush we just pay top dollar all the time.

MELBOURNE petrol prices are at their cheapest level in more than year.

But the relief at the bowser is unlikely to last much longer, so drivers are being urged to quickly fill up.

The RACV said yesterday’s 135c-a-litre unleaded fuel average was the lowest it had recorded since early June, 2013.

Experts expect costs to soon jump by 15c-20c a litre as part of the usual up-then-down metropolitan price cycle.

“Fill up now — it’s not going to last,” RACV vehicle engineering manager Michael Case said. Three weeks have elapsed since the city’s last price peak, meaning the low prices should soon shoot up.

Petrol stations in the city’s west and southeast had the best bargains yesterday.

“We can never predict exactly when the price is going to rise. But given the current cycle has already been going for 20 days since the last peak, it would not be surprising if there was an increase soon,” Mr Case said.

Low prices can last for several days, rather than one or two days.

When they rocket back up the jump is often at least 15c a litre, rather than 12c a litre, before gradually falling again.

Here in the Bush we just pay top dollar all the time.

Its pretty cheap out here, diesel was $1.53/L, we seem to have very steady prices and a lot of the time its cheaper here than in Melbourne.

I've seen it 20C/L dearer in Ascot Vale for 91 than out here.

And also Gisborne Caltex seems to be 10-20c/L more expensive for some reason every now and again even though its on the Calder Freeway side.

Imagine saying that 10 years ago . I remember when the service stations had to change their fuel boards to go from 99 cents to $1.00 . I was contemplating getting a horse...............

Yeah but that I'd the way it works............. have months of high fluctuations until harry suburban starts to economize because he's had enough being shafted. ......... then they throw in a week or two of cheap days to sucker him back into a higher spending pattern, no doubt the instant it's a holiday time prices will jump by 20 cpl.

i filled up all my cars 2 weeks ago as the news said prices will go up, i filled up when e10 was 133.9 but last night i got it for 124.9 at a wollworths near sydney.
almost makes it worthwhile to travel to sydney with a jerry can
normally my local is 143.9 all the time and never changes

Apparently there has been and still is a government inquiry into fuel price fixing for the last few weeks.
Coincidentally the fuel prices have been the lowest in a long time and lacked a price cycle for the same time period.

Make of that what you will.

What I make of it is that it is probably specifically looking at:

1. How much money the Government currently makes from ripoff petrol prices.
2. How much more money the Government can make from ripoff petrol prices.

It certainly ins't about getting us a better deal at the bowser.

Yeah the inquiry by the ACCC is about the actually fixing prices as they were getting each others pricing from a website.

The oil companies and government are laughing laughing at all of us. It will never hapoen but if everyone stayed home for a week then we might see some action but as I said we just cop it on fuel, utilities , taxes on taxes

Yeah the government doesn't want the prices to come down as they will collect less GST revenue if it does, so they want to keep it higher artifically or not.

I noticed the local United servo staying at 1.30 for E10 for 3 or 4 days in a row. 100 octane was $1.50 so I that was nice.
