Default Anyone else got REX in their EA-ED?

Coz I wanna know where the **** you got the wiring diagram from!!!

I went to 4 Ford dealers today and got ZERO help. Ford dealers are the worst, Russellw gave me more information than they could and they fit the bastards ing_sm

After 3 hours of driving around and looking for information, all I found out was that it's made by Eurovox, and to call them. I called them up and I'm waiting for them to call me back...been half an hour so far and she said she'd be a few minutes.

I was thinking the same thing. Actually after reading the title I had pictures of EA-ED lining up against WRX's at the drag strip.

im guessing its some type of entertainment system.. but from what?

dealers are always useless on technical shits. would they outsource the fitting of "dealer fitted" entertainment type options, like they do with tinting etc?

Stands for Rear Entertainment Xtreme doesn't it? Something like that anyway. A fold up screen fitted to the ceiling between the front seats.

Yeah I should have posted more info.

REX (Rear Entertainment Extreme...gay name I know) was a dealer fitted $3k accessory which was available from AU2 onwards, and could also be fitted to AU1s. I bought the system recently from a guy who ripped it out of his AU2 Fairmont, everything bar the head unit was included and no it's not hot.

I need a wiring diagram for it so I can find out what the 6 pin plug that is supposed to go to the head unit is for. Everything else is all sweet, it's all coded so you know what plug goes where.

Now, I got back to Eurovox and it turns out they didn't make it at all until BA. I called up Ford again, they had no idea and put me through to Knox Ford. Knox Ford said it 'could' be made by some company call ASL or maybe even Pioneer. Who fitted the ****s that's what I want to know? It's like they magically appeared out of no where.

I went and looked at the system just before and found a sticker that says it's made by 'BEI' - Barallon Electronic Industries. Couldn't get a number for 'em so jumped on the net to e-mail them, and John (EFFalcon) got me the number from outta his **** lol. Called up, nothing!!!! It's disconnected!!!!

What's going on!!!!

What colour are the wires? Is it powered through the head unit or seperately?

Instructions are overrated, have you tried guessing?

Lol. We've tried guessing but I can't bring myself to put it together by guessing. Probably end up ****ing something up lol.

The wires are red, green, white, blue, yellow and black. The black one has like a interference jacket thing around it.

Have you figured out if it is powered through the headunit or through something else?

Nope, it's powered throught the trailer wiring plug so that ain't a worry.

The wires are little skinny skinny wires like something inside a computer.

well..

find a stock head unit (guessing fairmont plus) and find out who makes it. they will have the specs on the interface. round 6 pin plug is 99% going to be some kind of stacker control, ie where the stock stacker would go -- though i thought AU3+ had in-dash stackers. depending on how its set up, this interface could be used to do any combination of:

-turn the unit on when the head unit is set to stacker mod
-amplify the sound out of the unit through the stock speakers (rear only? who knows!)

i doubt it powered the unit. also, eurovox didnt make them. they didnt make BA either, AFAIK?

finding out who fitted it wouldnt help you much as they probably have NFI what the plug does.

are you going to run a stock AU HU?

So can you get the actual system working without this plug attached? I imagine it would only be crap like muting the system, adjusting the volume, changing front/rear balances and what not and what galapogos said!

i'd hook it all up and give a remote signal to each wire and see which works, figure it out one by one.
u can do without sound for now :P

i imagine the dvd drive/n64 unit/whatever else have their own interface to this thing?

its powered through the trailer plug? does it get a switched ignition and a constant power feed from there?

Jason, the plug is a square plug about 1x1.5cm and looks nothing like a stacker plug. I know it doesn't power it, it'd just be remote and speaker signal wiring (turn 'em off/on). I don't know if it'd work without them, I'm going to go out and try in an hour.

The unit is made for rear passengers only, you can either get the sound through infra red head phones (which I have) or through the speakers if it's selected on the head unit. The driver/front passenger can listen to their own music or radio or whatever.

The BA system, according to Ford and Eurovox IS made by them.

I know the fitter wouldn't know, but RussellW said that the kit came with a wiring diagram for the fitter if he/she needed it. He also said those diagrams were discarded after fitment.

One more thing, the kit also can support Playstation 1 and 2.

http://www.deleted link/pics/cruises...ges/afd093.jpg

There's a pic of the screen.

As you can see all the buttons to select DVD/VCR/GAME are on the screen. There's a big plug that goes to a module mounted in the boot which would turn DVD/VCR/GAME on/off when selected and also controls fast forwarding, volume etc. when you are watching a movie.

It would probably get accessory 12v from the trailer wiring plug, I don't think that trailer wiring would get constant 12v.

No, for some reason. There'd be one plug just for power and another for all the lights AFAIK.

Aight, fitted the mofo up and wired in the power to the trailer plug. Nothing.

So then we found this extra green wire that was like going nowhere so I thought it must be for interference or something, earthed it and voila the DVD and VCR can open and shut and stuff, but the screen still wont go on.

That 6 pin plug's wiring's going to be a **** to find. I might go and try 'decipher' the wiring later. Anyone want to try and suggest what the wires are for or got a AUII head unit I can buy?

hmm that black wire with the sheath outside of it kinda makes me think its a signal wire (simply because its shielded). Does it look anything like Coax?

Sunny,
have you tried sitting down with a 9v battery and a Multimeter to find out what wire is what? I use to with car stereo's before the wiring became standardised to a point.

If the black wire has shielding on it, could you put a pic up? as depending on the type of wire, it could me many things. Infact if you could stick a pic up of the wiring I may be some help to you

Aight, small update.

I been going crazy e-mailing people and I ended up getting a nice gesture from a service guy at Etheridge. He invited me to go down and go through some service manuals and wiring diagrams with him.

Went down today and it turned out he got his hands on the original installation manual. He photocopied it for me along with all the wiring diagrams for AU2 relating to the stereo, but I still don't have a wiring diagram for the REX unit.

I'm really happy with the service provided by the guy, he went out of his way to get me some information, but it's obvious nobody in Ford has a wiring diagram.

I'm going to go through the wiring diagrams and see whether I can find out whether I can just go by wire colours, hopefully I can. Otherwise I'll be looking for a AU2 head unit.
