Default Koni Yellow Rebuilders

The ground seems to be shifting, at one point it was Heasman’s. By their website, maybe no more.

Where do I get a “back to new” rebuild on a pair of these?

Give K-Mac a go. They are just around the corner from Heasmans.

I bought a leather sofa from Ebay a few years ago and by sheer coincidence it was to be collected from their factory. Their setup was mostly tooling and manufacturing so it may be worth a try?

Heasemans and Konis ? being a main Billy Distributer I never knew they rebuilt opponent product but I could be wrong.

Maybe I’m wrong about Heasmans, then.

Shocks are leaking, while I can wipe this up for rego it’s taking the **** if I don’t fix it anyway. Not to mention any lost performance.

I've always been a bit wary of 'rebuildable' shocks. Probably OK for a track car that isn't needed day to day, but unless you can buy the parts and rebuild them yourself the labour to do it might end up being nearly as much as a new set anyway. Otherwise, if its a daily driver then you have to remove all the shocks, leave car on bricks, borrow or rent a car for a week or so, deliver shocks to whoever is rebuilding them, and then pick them up again and re-install them several days later if all goes well. And hopefully not be waiting on parts to arrive. Not fun...

In theory your right MattS BUT put it this way.
Koni's for one are quality and adjustable, most times they outlast incl perform way longer than the usual shelf known volume brands 3times to one for eg.
Agreed rebuilding one costs near on buying a new one but in the big picture its cost effective no.
How did you go Citroen ?

I’ve been rebuilding shocks for many years, and the cost is usually 1/3rd the cost of new. Can’t understand why Koni shocks would be any different.

Agreed Hawke but to retail customers I’ve seen pricing for years near new price.
I used to work for a company in Sydney years ago was a koni distributor.

Good points fellas. I would buy Koni (or Bilstein) anyway as a set and forget option based on lasting longer if I could afford them. Put a set of yellows in my VE SS with stock FE springs and it definitely had a better ride - less compression and more rebound damping as I recall, very nice.

Interesting that they can sometimes be rebuilt quite cheaply. Have seen this work for motorcycle shocks, eg. a GSXR shock rebuild for maybe $400 including optimising valving where a new Ohlins or anything else would be well over $1000.

I've had great experiences with Bilstein, am on my second set of shortened B8s in my Focus.

Night and day difference when they went in

I'd like to experience Bilsteins in my FG. Ordered before christmas, but no stock available from Germany until the end of this month. Bloody long wait.

Surprisingly easy to remove, only a few minutes per side. Nice to have a win. I wonder if these have had their stroke shortened?

I have had Bilsteins in several of my falcons including my FPVs and highly recommend them. I had maybe 2 rebuilds in the early days and found them cheaper than a set of poor shocks for the same car. The one thing with rebuilds is you can ask for them to be done to your preference, they don't have to stay the same.
I currently have them in the mustang and they helped transform it.

I have used Bilstein too, in Alfas.

The issue here has been that the car runs Koni adjustables, they are long discontinued for the model and there is no cost-comparable alternative vs a rebuild of existing.

Only this morning have I found reference to Smooth Suspension in Lilydale, as the importer’s authorised repair agents. I’m hopeful of gaining traction on the rebuild quest soon.

An unexpected and pleasing result, the shocks were tested “as is” by forum member hawke and found to be both well-matched, perfectly fit for service. The slight historical leaking has not impeded their function.

Used Smooth Suspension to repair a Koni red off my XB sedan, really good service.
