Default gasket problem

Silly question
How do I replace the crankshaft timing cover & aux shaft gasket & seal on a 2 litre, cant see how to remove the toothed 'cog' on the crankshaft the timing belt pulley bolts on to.

They can be a bit tight....Get a mate to hold a ring spanner on the cam pulley while you untighten the crankshaft pulley bolt. If you are on your own get a socket and a large ratchet or torque wrench if you've got one on the bottom pulley (which drives the dizzy). I use a big torque wrench and wedge it in under the chassis rail. It also helps if you have the radiator out.....Seems like a lot of work, but I like change the cam belt, water pump, thermostat housing and thermostat and sump gasket all at the same time, once a year.

The motor is on an engine stand so access is no problem, I've got the 'V' (fan belt) pulley off no probs - it's the timing belt pulley/cog on the crankshaft thats the problem, can't see how to get a gear puller on, assumming you use a gear puller, without stuffing up the alloy timing cover.

You dont need a gear puller at all???? All that holds it on is a bolt and concave washer. Remove this and give it a little tap and it should pop off.

....Sorry, misread the question. I thought you were just replacing the sump gasket and front and rear seals.
Why do you need to remove the cog from the crankshaft? Normally you'd flip the motor, remove the whole crank and replace the upper seal with crank out.

whooligan its the bottom timing belt cog I'm referring to & I need to replace the seal in the alloy timing housing & as far as I can see the timing belt cog has to be off before the alloy timing housing can be removed & the seal in it replaced.

Waaaaaaa Hooooooooo !!!!!!
After alot of gentle tap tapping-WD40-more tap tapping finally off the bloody cog came, just as well cos the seal was a hard & brittle as hell.
