Hey all I have had nearly 6 escorts over time. Last one I had was a mk1 Mexico and sold in 2007.im looking at getting a mk 2 four door as my next project. I have been reading up in the pony ford mags their using focus engines as a swap. But I can't for life of me understand why they remove injection and run carbs? Can anyone shed light on the issue?

What's Jp? But I meant to write pommy ford mag. It's called retro ford. I'm a mechanic and finding it hard to understand the need for ripping injection off for carbs? It works in some Motorsport categories but for my plans of road use I don't understand. Is it to get around ecu's or not really sure. I'm assuming that getting just a efi motor there is a need to muck around with wining looms is an issue.

The Pommy guys run carbs to be Old school, as escorts ran carbs in the day. You can buy a zetec or duratec rocker cover that looks like a BDA or other old school ford twin cams.
The injected engines make more power, but lack the twin carb sound and some argue don't look right in the engine bay...but that's also coming from a nation who think 13's look right on an arched escort. 15's or stay home for me! In Australia you will most likely need to keep the standard injection and ecu and pollution gear from the donor engine. JP (my initials!) |

Sweet I get your point of old school mate. I want to keep my mk2 without flared arches to start with then later on ramp it up. I saw something really interesting on a bloke running 4 bike carbies on a duratec engine it sounded and looked rad. I get the old school thing cause dad and I have built a few model a ford hot rods. I'm going to look into a duratec or something like that motor. Unsure as to what box to run though

Mazda's mx5 6 speed will bolt on the back of the duratec. good box.
the UK guys are getting 300UKHp out of them with big big carbs. would make a great engine but I doubt well see that in Australia! I rode in a 240 HP duratec engined Cortina around SE England and Brands Hatch a few years ago and that was a bit of a weapon. JP |

As we are talking I literally got a 2.0l duratec focus come in to work on. I can see a few hurdles already with this set up. The thriller body is electronic which might mean having to remove in place of something else. I would imagine the sense in running carbs etc.
