ok so lets work something out.

just for 2004, how many new cars where sold?

new cars sold x average rego (500) = ??? (a shitload I bet, and thats just from one year!)

Then if we could find some figures on how much was spend in road infrastructure and repairs..would be interesting.

In S.A. registering a V8 for 12 months is $734. That on top of the fuel tax is an insult.

And its worse in QLD when you have 5 cars, and 4 of them V8's
What get me shirty is that Land Cruisers are cheaper to reg than my XR8, and they do so much more damage to the roads.....

In WA, bike rego is 109 for six months, used to cost me 400 odd for 6 months in the NT, NT is a shocker for regos.

Up here in Brisbane, it costs me about $800 a year to have my ZH on the road, which includes rego, CTP and stamp duties. That's a 1750kg car with a V8 for you... and that's NOT including additional insurance, which costs me a further few hundred for Third Party Fire and Theft. Over a grand a year to be able to drive my car around. At least petrol's a bit cheaper up here...

The only thing I *do* like about QLD rego is that I don't need to get a pink slip every year provided my car stays fully registered. Which might help a bit, although there are still things that need to be done to it so I only avoid the costs of getting tested.
